I posted this in the main thread (where it got instantly buried in the message avalanche) ;)

    Question regarding the gt330m

I could swear that the very first time I fired up SecondLife on the Z, that it recognized the gt330m and used it. Also, I'm pretty sure I checked that the cpu utilization was quite low as it ran.

However anytime I fire up SL now, there is no difference between Speed vs. Stamina mode. In both cases SL states that it doesn't think I have a gpu (or that it doesn't recognize it) and in either case the cpu churns like mad just to do minimum resolution settings.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get the video card to step up to the plate?

OK, I went over to Device Manager and told the Display Adapter for the gt330m entry to scan for the latest driver. It said I was OK. Is there a better way to get the latest graphics driver?

Edit: I looked on the Nvidia site and I see they have a driver. Version #197.16
If I download and install this will it cause any problems with the Z (i.e. auto mode switching to Intel graphics mode etc.)?

My Vaio says its gt330m driver is 8.16.11.8880 from 1/19/2010
The Nvidia site shows the latest as 197.16 from 3/29/2010

In reading through those (I skimmed through some pages but I did not read the threads through exhaustively) they mainly seem to be talking about the incorporating the Optimus drivers and being able to get that functionality. I definitely do not want that. I want a stock configuration. I like the idea of always leaving it in Stamina mode and then switching to speed on the rare occasions that this would be called for.

So, looking through there, I was trying to determine what, if any, problems I would run into if I download the latest drivers from Nvidia (currently 192.16) and install them in my otherwise bone stock Z11?

Stock drivers from Nvidia do not support Z. There are modded versions that partially support Z but still have issues, especially with switching modes. Besides, modded drivers require self-signing and running OS in test mode. Otherwise you are stuck with drivers provided by Sony.

Did you try just uninstall/reinstall original driver from Sony? Perhaps you need to run configuration utility (if there is one) for Second Life.
