Hey guys, after uninstall all the junk from my new SZ, I am now need a ghost software that doesn't need to be installed in window partition. I used to use norton ghost 2003 beacuse the whole software was self contain in a floppy, but guess what?? no Floppy for me now!! *(GOd I miss floppy)

Symantec restore CD is not a "self contain" ghost software for me because it can only restore a ghost image, not create one.

Also, is there any partition software that is also self contain on a CD??

Acronis True Image can be fully contained on a CD.

That's what I use. I bought the suite that includes DiskDirector a few years back, and have kept TI updated. I had to update to the latest v11 to get it to recognize the Intel Matrix RAID array in my new AR670. Both DD and TI can be put on the same bootable rescue CD so you have access to both without an install.

The only catch is, you have to install both at least once in order to create the rescue CD. However once you've created it, it can be used without installing anything further. You could uninstall the installed version afterwards.

You mean the rescue CD can do BOTH creating ghosts AND restore? Because Norton Ghost has CD, but can do only restore.....

Yes, it can do it all -- it's a full-featured version of TrueImage. I use the rescue CD to all of my drive imaging and restoring.

I still use Ghost 2003 for my Vista images. All I did to get a Ghost bootable CD was to take my floppy to a machine with a floppy drive and a CD burner. Using the floppy I booted up and then started the process of burning an image to CD. When Ghost asked if I wanted to make the CD bootable I said yes. Once the CD was complete, I was able to then use IT as my Ghost bootable media on any machine that had no floppy drive.

I've not yet had a successful restore using Acronis True Image 11.

Really? What problems are you having? I've not yet tried to restore with v11, but I've imaged my AR670 twice already without a problem. Of course I've restored many times to other laptops and desktops using v10 and v9. I just updated to v11 because v10 wouldn't recognize the Matrix RAID array in the AR670.

If there's a problem restoring with v11 that isn't specific to your situation, I'd like to know before I try and it hoses my system!

It would just hang at about 27%. No messages. No errors. After giving up a few times and doing a full reinstall to get back up and running I'm not really very interested in trying again. I suppose I should get another identical disk drive so I can try non-destructively.

It can even restore images on any PC or NAS in your local network. I usually make backups of my PCs in my NAS and restore them with True Image.
