    Hello,

    I need an advice here.
    Should I buy FS550 or FS570?

    FS550 = 1.6Ghz 80GB 512MB
    FS570 = 1.7Ghz 100GB 1GB

    For long-term and better investment, which one should I choose?

    Buy it direct from SonyStyle.com and customize for your needs, unless you must buy it from a local store. The advantage is the $250 rebate.

    Toshiba Hard Drive (40GB 5400rpm) finally blew on my 2.5 year old Compaq 2800T.

    If you're not a gamer and are using it for web surfing, email and some other apps, save the $300.00 and get the FS550.

    I'm not a gamer and I bought the 550 and I'm very pleased. I'm sure there are better configured systems and faster ones, but for my needs this is fine, plus the screen is gorgeous.

    I would buy the FS550 and spend $140 upgrading the RAM at Best Buy. They're running a special - $64 for 512mb. Besides, you can buy the FS550 for around $1300 on eBay. I've seen a few go for $1150 - $1200. I just couldn't justify spending $1650 on a machine that was only marginally better than one for so much less...

    Also get the smallest hard drive you can and upgrade after purchase. It is usually much cheaper.

    If you can afford the 7200, I would highly recommend it. Ususally there a few screws on the bottom. Take them off, slide the hard drive out, take the hard drive out of the caddy and do the reverse. There may be an adapter on th hard drive, if there is take it off and put it on the new one. Now the bad part, you have to re-install XP. I can't remeber if Sony gives a you recovery disc or the OS disc. If you get a recovery disc, you may be able to put the disc in and let it install. Otherwise you'll have to do a manual install. This should all be covered in the manual somewhere. Good Luck.

    There is only one company that makes them, Hitachi. Notebook hard drives, with a few exceptions, are fairly universal.
