I found a TZ 185 on eBay, new-opened box item, that is for $2,200, Talked to the guy and it should be mine but I'm worrying because I can't get extended warranty from Sony. What do you guys think?

to me, new-opened box = used.

look for a better deal, $2200 is a large chunk of cash for a used laptop on ebay.

in fact, if you are spending $2200 on your laptop, ebay is probably not a good marketplace for you.

think of the alternatives you could get.

    for example:

brand new 15" macbook pro with a 3 year warranty and save $200 off of your price above...

even if apple isn't the right laptop solution for you, its an example of why you should keep looking.

edit: tz seems genuinely expensive. if you need that sort of thing, just go ahead and pay the extra couple of hundred bucks to buy it new and get the warranty.

I assume the seller cannot provide you with a receipt? If not, check the laptops market release date. If it has been out for less then 11 months you won't have a problem extending your warranty. You need a minimum of 30 days left of your original warranty to purchase an extended service plan.

Seller says the laptop has never been opened, it was returned because customer did not like the color. Secondly, there is still a full year factory warranty. I went on Sony chat support and they told me I couldn't get an extended warranty, but it sounds like you're right Sponsi!

Hnguyen2, if you are willing to spend $2200 on a used TZ185, why don't you consider the brand new TZ250? :D They have the same specs and the TZ250 only sells for $2100 (brand new from portable1 with 1 year VAIO care and optional extended warranty). See the following link from portable1:

I hope this helps and best of luck for your purchase :)

I have to be honest, the white carbon-fiber is the reason I'm buying the TZ 185. It's just unique and I don't want a white Mac!!!

well man, looks or reliability. The white may be pretty, but come on...if it's breaking who really cares? Go for the guaranteed product. Buy it from Sony directly.

SONY VAIO = NO WARRANTY = NO NO!!!

I bought a 3000 dollar laptop SZ484N 7 months back and I take great care of it. and I just got my screen replaced under warranty.

The guy at the service centre said that because my screen uses a backlight led system to illuminate the screen brighter. one of the bulbs or lights might hav burned. they replaced it under warranty.

So 7 months, burned screen? hmmm...not something i would trust......if there was no warranty i would have shelled out a good amount of money to get it replaced.
