I'm going to be ordering the Vaio SR today or tomorrow. I can't decide whether to spend an extra $129 on an extra year warranty. What do you guys think?

... dum di dum...
Nobody can answer that quetion for you.
Do you get any warranty anyway?
For example, most of Europe gives you 1 year, some countries give you 2 years anyway.
Then, if you are generally unlucky with electronics - maybe yes.
How will you use your laptop - if you will be using it a lot, carrying around etc. you may want to consider it as the additional stress may make failure more likely...
On the other hand its possible that it'll work fine for years without any additional warranty. -
Sony provides default warranty of 1 year. My old laptop (Dell) lasted me 8 years without a problem. However the reason I'm asking is because it seems to me that laptops nowadays are a lot more fragile than they used to be and the hardware has a greater tendency to die on its own without abuse, than before. Or is it just me?

I think that overall the quality of electronic goods has gone down - however, you can still get products that last for ages.

I've never paid for extended warranties simply because American Express gives you a free 1 year extended warranty when you use their card to pay for a laptop. So if you ask me if $129 is worth it, I'd say no.

I bought the extended warranty. my last laptop, a pricey 17" dell xps died at 18 months
so I wanted a little piece of mind for this one.
Should I get the extended warranty?
