on a A250 at Amazon.com? They have it for $1749, but I have a gift certificate for $200 and a discount for getting there card for another $30. Is it worth it for $1519? I don't think I need much more than that configuration. In fact I had ordered a Inspiron 9200 last night but found this site this morning and had to cancel my order with Dell due to the screen issues it has. The screen is a major thing with me. I have seen this model and like how it looks. The only thing I would need is XP PRO because the application I support will not load on home. I guess I'll need to purchase the XP PRO upgrade from MS or Sony? I just don't want to run into driver issues after spending all that cash. For me $1500 is a small fortune :) Thanks in advance and very very nice forum you guys have going here (it saved my ass from a major mistake!).

actually, i'd say hold. J&R is the one offering the laptop for the $1749 price, and I don't know if your GC will work when buying through another retailer featured on AMZN. If you click for the amazon price it's $1,847.99. Then add in the fact XP Pro upgrade is about -- $179 you might want to try using the 10% off code at SonyStyle.com and get a config that has XP Pro on it. The VAIO A is nice, it's just a challenge getting it for a great price, last week eCost.com had a good deal on a VAIO A, maybe check there too.

well, I had to do it. The 30 bucks did not apply to items not shipped from Amazon. However, the GC did work fine. Thank you for pointing out the JR link. At JRs I found this rebate for another 100 bucks. No tax or shipping brought it down to $1449 once I get my rebate. Here is the rebate for those of you that might need it too. I think I can get the XP PRO OS from my employer (after all we write software which runs on MS).

BTW: right click and download the rebate. if it didn't work I'll be happy to email it to you!
