just bought this new Sony Vaio and will be mostly using it plugged in (not battery). Is it advisable to keep the battery connected when using AC power? By doing this, the battery would be charged all the time even though it is in full power already. Or should i just take the battery off when using AC power?
I know the battery gets hot after using the laptop for a long time.

Heat kills batteries. The only thing really bad about removing the battery is if you decide to use the laptop away from the power supply is you will have to install the battery to get the laptop to function. Charging wise, the batteries these days are "smart". That is, they have circuitry to not allow over-charging if ran on the power supply.
Batteries that have been stored away from the laptop for extended periods should be installed to re-up the charge. The L-ION batteries are better about this than their Ni-CAD cousins. HTH -
It's really not worth the effort to pull the battery. The Vaio will not try to keep charging it once it's full. Sure you may reduce its life by a fraction, but the benefit is not worth the pain in the butt if you ask me.
