Using a Sony Vaio FZ190 with Vista Home Premium:

I created a full Back-up disk and was able to see the files and folders just like they appear on the C drive. But, when I created my two Recovery Disks they appear like the snippets below. No actual programs, files, or folders show. A lot of stuff I know nothing about and a lot of windows that say "can't open this file". Is this normal for a recovery disk, or did I do something wrong. Using DVD+R disks. Computer said recovery disks were created OK. Just want to make sure all data is there before I really need it.

    Thanks,

    Ken

I wasn't able to get the snippet of the window saying it can't open one of the files starting with US. Hope this is enough. I hope this is just the way recovery disks work.

Yes that is what they look like, they look just like the ones I created for my FZ180E, I think they are all compressed files that the installer knows what to do with them when reinstalling vista.

    Thanks jesse6749

I thought that might be the case. I didn't want to wait till I needed them to find out I messed up. It was just that they looked so different from the Back-Up Disc I made.

    These disk serve two roles.

    1. Put disk one in the DVD drive, shut down, power up and the machine will boot from the DVD and then bring up a menu asking if you want to do a full restore, and a couple of other options which I don't remember at the moment.

    2. While Vista is running put disk one in. Vista will open an application and driver recovery application and present an interface with two tabs. One tab is for the drivers, the second tab is for the various applications that originally came with your machine.
