I mentioned in another thread I made, but since its a different topic I thought I might as well make another thread for it. My SZ is recognizing the "Sigmatel High Definition Audio CODEC" but theres a yellow exclamation mark next to it in the device manager. I've tried various driver revisions and nothing seems to help it out. I've seen other topic concerning this but out of all of them no real answer yet. Anyone have any thoughts as to a solution?

Oh yea and when I check out the device status in device manager it says "The device cannot start (Code 10)"

I'm having a similiar problem on my SZ360P. My SigmaTel Audio loads on startup and plays startup sounds, but whenever an application tries to use it the device seems doesn't get recognized by windows. So if I go to Control Panel | Sound and Audio Devices its say No Audio Device and at this point I can't play system sounds.

I contacted Sony support via chat and they assured me it was a corrupt driver, but I've tried to re-install it a half dozen times and no luck.

Atleast yours plays startup sounds. Mine doesn't even do that. I'm thinking about getting the Audigy notebook soundcard and calling it a day.

Also does anyone know if the sound card is on the motherboard or a separate unit?

The Sound card is on the motherboard. I also can install and uninstall the current sound drivers and it will work until I reboot the system.

I'm hoping that doing a clean install of Vista next week will solve the problem. It seems like a driver issue.

I had the same problem with my Dell, However after i uninstalled the driver and re-installed the updated driver it worked fine.
Go to Dell's website and download their updated driver, who knows maybe it'll work for you.
