It seems like ever since 4/12/07 I have been having wierd issues with my Sigmatel sound driver that I am unable to fix. I really don't want to do another recovery I just loaded this one back up after having to recover from a nice little virus.

Symptom: SZ381 comes up no sound, there is no speaker icon in system tray, when i try to use any multimedia it says no audio mixer device detected. I uninstalled the Sigmatel driver and restarted had sound until i opened wmp 10 then it failed again. system restore shows a distribution 2.0 update on the day I believe the issue started but rolling back to the day does not solve it.

Is anyone else experiencing this or am I alone?

did you try to see if you can remove that distribution 2.0 and then reinstalling the driver?

I had an issue where the windows audio service would not be started and i would get a similar error. You can go to control panel/administartive tools / services and see if the windows audio service is started.

Just kinda on this subject, I tried to install the latest Sigmatel Sound driver from VAIO

    SigmaTel Audio Driver 6.10.5379.0

it sounded pretty good, it mentions that if fixes errors like:

    - Playback of MP3/WMA in Media Center results in Media Center's performance becoming very slow
    - When you click "Play" button in Windows Media Center (WMP), it takes a little time before playback actually starts
    - Audio frame drop occurs during playback with WMP

since I had those problems before, but after installation - no sound came out and my WMP just froze. So I roll-backed the driver. What a disappointment and waste of time. I've got all the latest VAIO updates and Vista updates - so I dont' know what's going on here.

    Any body tried this?
