    Hello,

I wass looking at picking up a Z with the signature Metal Shield design and I was wondering the following.

After use, have you noticed scratches and or wear of the silver coating? I am concerned that the trackpad and wrist pad will become quickly discolored.

Also, is the design raised to the point where it woud be worn offf when transporting in a bag.

The only silver laptops I have owned in the past are MacBook Pros. I owned older variations of the MBP's before theeir all aluminum design and did not that issues with wear.

My friend just showed me his black Z that has a few dings on the aluminum and it shows through silver.

So I guess either would be prone to issues.

Had my VAIO Z VPC11 since launch (over 6 months) and its still in perfect condition.

No scratches at all, no discoloring on the palm rest.

However I'm regretting not picking the Premium Black one because that one has a more epic VAIO feel to me.

Hmm since the Z came out, i don't think anyone has ever reported a Silver Z showing palmrest wear. There are however, numerous reports about the Z's with the gray chassis with the problem (mines included). Then again, it depends on your usage and other factors like how much your palms sweat (I sweat a lot + i game on my Z, so tons of stress on the palmrest paint). The paint they used on the silver seems to be more resilient (but don't quote me on that). However, my only reservation about that is that maybe 1 in 5 Vaio Z owners go with the silver, since to many, the Premium Carbon Fiber looks MUCH better than the standard silver and for most of us who have the money for a Z, what's an extra $50 since we're already throwing away $2k+. So the pool of silver Z's is smaller as well as those with a silver Z probably got a preconfigured model for < $2k and i would say they're less likely to be on this forum if they just walked into a Best Buy and picked up a Z

I've only had my silver Z12 for 2 months, but not seeing any palmrest fade though I'm using this computer 24/7.

AFAIK, and I've been reading these forums religiously since the launch of the VPC Z, there have not been reports of fading palmrests on silver Zs.

    Cheers.

I was digging through the Sony outlet and found to my surprise a few Metal Shield signatures on there with high specs. They are running the 20% off again till the 18th, so I thought I would ask.

Like a few of you, I would generally pick black carbon. However, this model looks nipples in the Sony store, but they want 2799 for an even lower spec version. Hopefully it will also help with resale being a limited color.
