Does anybody have any pics of their SZ with a silver keyboard and know of where I can purchase an SZ with a silver keyboard? I was planning on getting something similar to a 120p/b, but with a silver keyboard. Any info will help. Thanks so much!

I know you can select it for +$30 or so direct, haven't seen it elsewhere, but then again, haven't really been looking.
-
I ordered my Japanese SZ90 with the silver English keyboard. In the USA, not sure other than the custom SZ140s where you can get one.
-
Thanks for the replies! I tried to customize an SZ140 at the sony website, but for some reason it won't let me. It gives me a message saying the setup I chose is not available.

Sorry for the picture overexposure! -
Nice pics. What kind of casing is on the SZ and where can I get that mouse?
-
Oh the carbon fibre debachle rears its ungly head again
The case is carbon fibre weave with gel coat only available in limited quanity from Sony in Japan. Unavailable in the rest of the world. Please see the stickied thread at the top of the Sony forum for more details.
The mouse is a dual optical /Skype mouse: VN-CX1. Again, only available in Japan and maybe other parts of Asia If you are in the US you can order it from Dynamism.com.
Ring Dynamism and perhaps they can ship you one with the carbon fibre weave. Dynamism now sell the SZ91 model, and last time I looked they were shipping ones marked as Premium Carbon. Better check what this actually means ; Again, read the stickied thread at the top of the forum for more info on this one. -
The SZ281 on US sonystyle lists as having the Premium Carbon lid.

cosrocket-thanks so much for the update.that kinda bums me out that they won't allow you to truly customize.
Zii-Great looking notebook!! did you purchase your SZ with the silver keyboard from that site/or from Japan, or did you have to change that yourself? -
I bought it direct from Dynamism with the silver keyboard, but it is easy to swap out the keyboard as I tried it on with the SZ160P/C I have because I wanted ot see how it looked with the black one. I preferred the silver in the end.
Neoguri: It is important to note that Sony in the US, as well as the ROW, markets the carbon fibre reenforced plastic lid as Premium Carbon, whereas Sony in Japan markets the carbon weave lid as Premium Carbon. As I stated earlier, in order to avoid customer confusion and possible dissatisfaction, you have to read this thread:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=50140
As I stated before: The carbon woven lid does not sell outside Japan. -
neoguri- as he said, read the whole carbon fiber post. The lid with the weave was a limtied ed run in asia only. the usa is carbon fiber but you cant see the weave.

i personally thing the black keyboard matches the sz much better than the silver one...
but that's just my opinion -
When I bought my SZ160P/C it said premum black carbon as well. When I spoke to SonyStyle afore I ordered it they said that it was Premium Black Carbon as well. In the US the Premium Carbon refers to the 4mm thick lid and the carbob fiber black lid, not the weave.
-
zii - i am not doubting you. but if you look for yourself, the description of the SZ270 says black carbon, while the SZ281 says Premium black carbon.
-
I have just looked at the SZ281P/X and I think that you're right.
i) its says Premium Black Carbon, and
ii) if one enlarges the image of the lid, it looks exactly the same carbon weave as mine does. Its also about the same price as the one I paid for in JP, but with the quad band GSM/EDGE. (Does the chip come with GPRS?) Looks cool - Buy one!
Below is the photograph of the 281P/X linked from SonyStyle.com.

A few pics of my SZ140 w/ the custom silver keyboard. I personally prefer the black keyboard on the premium models but I think the silver really brings out the non-premiums.
-
Those silver keys look awesome with the silver palm rest.
-
so Zii does that mean you were able to get a silver english keyboard separately and swap it with the black one manually on your SZ160P/C after you got your laptop from the manufacturer? I ask because I'm gonna get an SZ2xx pretty soon. and I rather get the hardware from BestBuy (seems like a better warranty) than from the sony website. thanks -
Hi, sorry I wasn't watching this thread.
No, I didn;t get one seperatly.
I had a 160P/C with black kbd and an SZ90 with a silver kbd. The keyboards are easy to swapout as they are identical other than the colour.
However, I think if you take out the kbd and look carefully you ought to be able to see the model number of the kbd.Contact one of the spare parts places that specalise in Sony (and others), and ask them if they have a replacement part. Perhaps, they might. -
does the silver keyboard have the same pitch (3mm) as the black one? I'm having a very hard time with the 3mm.
has anyone else had problems with hand pain, especially the right hand using the black kb?
