I've FZ190, and I've noticed that sometimes when put into sleep mode, it restarts and after login Windows gives an error message. I installed Microsoft's "solution" to fix this, which didn't work. Seems to be a common problemn.

the brightness behavior after sleep was controlled by the power management on VAIO Control Center.

    Hi,

I've got similar problem. My vaio won't go sleep from time to time. Usually when you least expect it to happen and when you have important, unsaved data. Very frustrating! I close laptop's lid, but it won't go sleep. Screen goes black while all diodes stay on. If I leave it like that, it will eventually reset itself after, say, 10 mins. Otherwise I have to hard-reset it.

If you look around, you will see that's quite a common problem. But nothing what I found really solved problem. One of solutions is to apply hotfix KB931671 which helped me, but didn't solve problem entirely. Now it happens, say, one time a week, while before the fix, it did even happen 3 times a day (sic!).

What is worth to note is that hibernation works just fine. But it does take 30 secs or so.

I can't get this: Vista was announced as a OS with rebuild and reliable sleep & hibernate functions. From what I experienced in 6 months of having my vista laptop I see this is anything but true.

Have you tried patch with Vista SP1 ? it claims to answer those sleep issue ...
By the way .. my SZ7 does not have any major issue so far with Vista SP1. The start and shutdown is quite fast compare to previous.

Actually, I had installed SP1 (the RC version), or at least I tried to! After last stage of upgrade, so basically speaking, having SP1 installed Vista reported that SP1 did not install and its reverting changes. It worried me, because whole process went surprisingly smooth and - I saw the 100% complete of each stage.
Hopefully there was no need for system reinstall.

ATM, I'm not a big fan of SP1. Heard of lots of issues. I'm going to wait with this. Also, SP1 with my lang set is going to be released in mid April, I think.

    That's comforting!

Did you try counting sheeps? I've read that it's a good solution for sleep problems.
