My Z13 just got delivered and I've noticed there's a little play with the battery (standard battery) - it's locked in place but it moves around slightly so has the potential to rattle a little bit. Just wondered if this is normal or not? Thanks...

Fold a piece of paper and put it in the battery compartment before putting in the battery. I did that with a post it sticker note, folded 2 times. I placed it just near the lock slide. Rattle is away, battery gets some better fit with that. Have that for 1/2 year now and no issues.

OK thanks for the replies. I just wanted to check it was 'normal' - was just a bit surprised to discover it was a bit loose but I'm sure it won't affect anything anyway.

I put 2 small/thin/soft pieces of EMI/shielding foam in there a few weeks ago.
Nothing to do with EMI but that was handy to stop the battery from moving. :)

My new Sony Z Series arrived yesterday. I paid $2250 for it, shipping & tax included, upgraded to 256gb in SSD memory. However, I have the same problem as the guy above, the battery jiggles and rattles around. . I pay this much for the best laptop available, I want it to look and feel like quality. It doesn't. The battery rattling around & makes it feel like I've had it for years and its been banged around or dropped too many times.

So I took it into the SonyStyle store here in San Jose, CA. First of all, no instore returns because it was custom made (since I ordered extra memory). Second, both Z Series they had in store on display also had the same problem! Their batteries jiggled around. Wow, what a bummer. I am now returning this laptop. And now what am i going to do?? No way am I buying a Dell, HP, or Toshiba. Very frustrating, I was so looking forward to this laptop. Maybe the Samsung 9 series? Although I really prefer Sony.

Samsung 9 series are horrendously glossy.
And glossy == finger print magnets.

I bought a VAIO cause it was one of the most 'matt' machines around at the time (that plus it was a high-end performer at the time as well).

Though on the subject. Surely you're not thinking of returning a US$2k+ machine cause of a little jiggle? Ok, it ain't perfect, but then it ain't isolated on just your machine (it's present on all). And surely it doesn't affect how your machine runs; not like you'll be shaking the thing as you use it, and it won't turn off suddenly cause of the jiggle (not sure if the issue is that bad in the first place...).

Not trying to diss or anything, but no machine is perfect. Be happy with what you have. Heck, be very happy since it is a very expensive machine.

It's "normal" in the sense a very large portion of Z11/Z12/Z13 have the same problem. Mine was like that too.

It's not normal in the sense that it shouldn't be like this. I had to resort to sticking some stuff to make the battery stay in place. I don't want to pick up a laptop and feel its underside jiggle. >_>

It is ridiculous to return this great computer because the battery jiggles a bit. Put two sheets of paper under the battery (you dont even see that) and jiggle is 100% eliminated... Cant be that hard to do.

hey guys try not to use paper - we'll have to use UL-approved (fire retardant/safe) material :)
