Im on the fence as well. My intention was to wait until the new generation is released, but Sony hasnt even made an announcement yet. They announced the SZ6 two months before its release. I was hoping the release of the new one would coincide with the release of the penryn processors, but im losing faith.

Very good news for SZ owners who have been waiting for Blu-Ray drive but remember, according to the translation, this is just a sample or a prototype. The thing will only be shown at 2008 CES exhibit in Las Vegas.

Toshiba shown off their own version 9.5mm HD DVD a year ago but the drive is still nowhere to be seen in the market. http://www.engadget.com/2006/10/03/toshiba-shows-off-external-internal-hd-dvd-drive-prototypes/

So, I am not so sure when we will start seeing this drive. Perhaps in a year or two :(

What is the drive model # of your TZ? Should be in the device manager.

^ I don't have a TZ--just being nuts over a super-nice ultraportable that I will one day own one as Sony slowly creeps their specs up toward my dream configs. That's when I will boldly pull the trigger.
