    Greetings,

Sorry if this has been answered - I searched and found only things that I've already tried and found ineffective.

I picked up an FZ140E recently. It's got Vista Premium installed and contains an Intel WiFi 4965AGN card. I was able to connect to my home network (WRT54G w/Alchemy firmware) just fine, but the throughput both on the internet and over my home network is abyssmal. On my other machines on the home net I can see speeds of 1400+kbps. The FZ140 barely makes it to 160kbps. This includes a UX380 on Vista connecting wirelessly to the same network, and various other computers both wired and wireless, on XP and Ubuntu.

I have updated the drivers on the FZ140, both with Windows Update, VAIO update, and by manually locating and downloading the latest drivers (11.1.1.11, from 4/30/07) from Intel's site. Power management is set to "Maximum Performance" on the advanced power settings, and settings in the properties for the 4965AGN are set as follows (accessed from the Network>Properties>Configure path from the start menu).

Ad Hoc Default Wireless Mode - 0. 802.11b/g
Ad Hoc Power Management - Disabled
Throughput Enhancement - Enabled (tried on Disabled too)
    Transmit Power - 5. Highest
    Wireless Mode - 6. 802.11a/b/g

I've also set the Wireless Device Switch program provided by Sony to look for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz services. That seems to have had no effect, as having 5GHz services unchecked earlier made no difference on the connectivity or throughput to my 2.4GHz home net.

Considering the other machines on the network, for which the WRT54G acts as both the router and switch/hub, have impressive speeds, I'm doubtful any modifications to it would make a difference. Still, I did try different 802.11b/g channels, with no effect on any of the equipment, and the power has been turned up past the default value via the Alchemy firmware for months now.

Furthermore, I also tried on the FZ140 a program called TCPOptimizer from Speedguide.net - again, without noticeable results.

Basically, I'm at my wit's end trying to find a solution for this mess. Can anyone provide me with any other ideas or solutions?
