So, the Sony SmartWi application came installed on my latest SZ iteration (SZ780N5, from P1). At first I was very into it --- the ability to turn Bluetooth on/off independently of the WLAN radio was very nice (I'm a pretty avid power-miser!). I didn't realize that the SmartWi is installed b/c I have the Sprint WAN modem installed in the computer too --- I guess that's what the "N" designates? In any case, as you all probably know, the SmartWi application lets you switch all 3 services (WAN, WLAN, and Bluetooth) on and off.

    HOWEVER!

The application uses a lot of memory and even, I think, a good bit of processing power while it's running. It also occasionally fails to start up correctly, which is semi-annoying. Like I said above, I do like the option of easily turning bluetooth on/off while using the WLAN but, in the interest of saving power and system resources, I don't know if it's worth disabling the SmartWi application (since I don't expect I'll ever use the WAN modem --- at least not in the foreseeable future) and installing the Wireless Switch Utility (whatever its called) that my SZ360 used.

So --- options are to keep the somewhat hefty SmartWi application running, with the option of running WLAN independently of Bluetooth, or to install the basic switcher, which would cause Bluetooth to always be on when WLAN is on.

What are other people's thoughts on the SmartWi app, assuming you don't use the WAN? Like it? Hate it? Uninstalled?

Thanks --- feedback is appreciated. I know there are some older posts talking about the SmartWi app, but none seemed to address the issue in this light. :)
