...all I really need to do is get a retail copy of Vista, use my OEM serial, and load up the first recovery DVD and install the drivers and any of the included software I may want? Why is this such a problem for so many? Or did I miss something here?

Part of the issue, I think, is trying to figure out which of those pieces of "included software" are really required. Also, the installer for some of the drivers doesn't work real well from the DVD. You are better off getting the drivers from the Sony support site. Plus there is a trick, that will allow you to install the SATA driver WHILE you install Vista. I believe this does speed up the install a bit as the drivers are a bit more optimized than the "generic" ones in Vista. Check the thread in my signature for details on all of this.

Well, I am mainly basing what I plan to do off of your guide, but taking it a step further. I don't want ANYTHING but what is absolutely required. Things like Adobe and Flash, well I already have those included with CS3. In other words, I really don't need ANYTHING at all, except for a basic Vista Home Premium install with the proper drivers. Do you know what programs are absoutely necessary to make all the function buttons and instant on stuff work? You included a lot of stuff in your list, but I just need a bare minimum list to start off with because I have "better versions" of most of the included crap, or different programs that do the same thing I just like better.

Anything from Sony that I installed is "essential". Except maybe the "Video Photo Suite". I tired to indicate what each piece of software on the list was actually used for. So you should be able to discern what YOU need or don't need. If there is any piece you are not sure of, drop me a note.

Alright thanks for the help. I'll try to go through that list a little more in-depth now that I'm not, well, half asleep >_>
