I just took it out of the box yesterday left it charging till it was full and pluged it up this morning and come to find out its already lost battery and is at 92%...then used it for 6 to 10 minutes and it was at 88% i dont understand the drainage. I have it on stamina mode with brightness at 3 dots or notches. What am I doing wrong here? should I take this back??? If this is happening brand new isnt this just going to increase as a problem? I thought these things would last 4 hrs off the AC cord.

Don't know why but it is normal for battery to start from 92%. This is common on all Vaio's. I have the same thing on my SZ360.

The battery lasts about 3.5 hours. This is on Stamina mode in the Ultimate battery mode with a brightness of 3 bars and WLAN on but bluetooth off.

After playing around, my best time is 5 hrs and 37 minutes with about 20 % left( I have it set to turn off at 20%).
My setting is ultimate battery with the background lit to 2.(excel,word, outlook and IE7 running)
I have Bt enabled for my mouse and wifi off but wifi was being turned on intermittently by me every hour or so for 30 min intervals.
It seems to me my battery has increased a little since I first tested it, but i have more of the power savings tweaked.
I believe I can achieve 6+ hours if I go Ultimate with screen on 1 and BT and Wifi off. running just word or excel. I am trying to test this out, will post results.
BTW my battery drops from 100 to 92% over night as well, I think my Compaq does this as well.

How in heck do you see the sceen on 2 or 1 notch? its so **** dark you cant see anything. I fail to see how you could get any work done on the screen being that dark

There are peeps on these forums who will torture themselves endlessly with settings like these to squeeze the maximum life out of a battery! I myself can't get enough briteness, so unless I'm flying in cattle class, I don't *ever* turn down the briteness to save batt power, that's what AC is for!

Who wants to spend $2k on a lappy for state-of-the-art contrast ratios and then turn the **** thing down? DOH! :D

    Not my normal mode.
Its not bad in a semi dark room/office. I prefer to have it set a few notches brighter but I am in a tweaking mode to see what this battery can really pull off.
