I've been having this annoying problem and I can't really pinpoint what's causing it.

    Symptoms:
    1. In IE7 (with all new updates from Microsoft Update installed) when I enter a URL into the Address bar and hit [Enter]...it hangs for about 5-10 seconds before it actually starts looking for the page. I know this because the [->] button next to the address bar does not turn into the "refresh" button for 5-10 seconds.

    2. In Microsoft Word 2003...when I click Open or Save...the dialog box takes about 20 seconds to come up (meanwhile the program is stuck)...and then when I double click on folders or the "Save in" or "Look in" drop down menus to navigate to where I want to save or load from...the program hangs for another 10 seconds each time I do it.

I had this problem a while back and never figured out what it was...people on the internet say it was a faulty update from MS...but I got the updated (fixed) version of the update. I just recovered my C drive and all was good till about 2 nights ago the problem came back. I went online and got the update for the Intel PROset...and that fixed the problem for about a day. Now the problem is back and I don't know what to do.

Can anyone help??? Please!!!! Oh and I've run Spybot SD, TrendMicro Antispyware, and NOD32 deep scan. Cleaned everything that was returned...and still not working properly.

    Thanks!
    Jeff

Sounds like you have a disconnected network drive (previously mapped).

^^ I've checked for that...and I never connect/map any drive. The only extra drive that I get is when I connect my ext. HDD. I even right clicked on My Computer and went to "Disconnect Network Drive..." and it gave me a message saying "You have no network drives to disconnect."

Firefox does not do the lagging thing that IE7 does.

andyasselin -- which event log? the NOD32 had some errors...but they were all because files could not be accessed to be scanned. I'm assuming they were in use. I'll try again later in safe mode.
