Customer service is a fact of life. I am not sure that people as a whole will ever really be satisfied because you are forced to interact with customer service when you are already mad/frustrated that something does not work. I have delt with Sony customer service on several occasions. The worst I can say about them is I have no idea why I have to repeat my problem to every technician. Don't they share the same data base they are tapping away on when we are talking. I originally bought my first Sony because I was so mad at HP. (Although HP really came through in the end to try and keep me as a customer) I did not like speaking to someone I felt did not understand me. Anyway, Sony has always sent me my return box in a timely manner and they have always beat their estimate for repair times. I wish that Sony support was a bit more robust for those of use who like tinkering by ourselves. I used to own a Dell and at the time, the Dell support site was amazing. It had every possible driver/configuration option you could want to download for your machine. If you wanted to erase the hard drive and start over, you just input your computer serial number into Dell Support, it took you to a site where you could re-load everything or anything onto your freshly formatted hard drive. You could click on a file and get directions and pictures showing you how to take apart your laptop and replace fans and dirves etc. And this was over dial up. Sony's seems to be designed for beginners and the tools are not very powerful and the options are not varied. Oh, and of course Sony service will COST you when your warranty expires. I think that is fairly standard, but Sony has this "one cost" policy which can be fairly expensive. Buy Sony for the form factor and the unique combination of graphics, power and ergonomics. If you are not into those then be sure to shop elswhere before jumping on Sony. It works for me because weight and screen quality are my discriminators. Then on top of that the SZ has great performance. But I could have saved serious money buying a heavier, clunkier computer.
