    Hi all,

I'm interested in protecting my data should my laptop be stolen. I need to dual boot (Windows/Linux), so I'm currently weighing over Bitlocker and TrueCrypt. Both seem to have their advantages; but both also seem to have some pretty big disadvantages - especially when the complexities of maintaining them across multiple OSes.

So, what I'm wondering is - what is the "proprietary hard disk drive protection software" that Sony says they build into their hardrives for security? Is this sufficient to protect my data should the laptop be stolen?

    Thanks,

Dell has similar hard drive password protection. I find it very useful to make sure no one can access it, unless they spend the time to crack the password.
