The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    Does anyone know if the new 17" VGN-AR170 notebook on the SonyStyle web site is the same design as the most recent 17" notebook Sony has been selling or is it a new design?

    The new AR series are completely new, with glossy surface, blue-ray, HDMI output, etc.

    Cool, I'm so pleased with the SZ160 I'm thinking of ordering a built to order AR170 but without the blue ray optical drive. I wonder if the case is exactly the same with the non blue ray AR170 as it is with the blue ray version. I didn't like the most current 17" Sony notebook,this one looks nicer.
