    Hey Guys,

Could you explain to me how the Sony 1GB VAIO Memory Expansion Module works?

If I customise my SZ with 2GB ram and select the Sony 1GB VAIO Memory Expansion Module option .... does that mean I have 3gb in my notebook?

and the Sony 1GB VAIO Memory Expansion Module is located inside the notebook right ... not an external attachment?

Sony will configure the SZ with a maximum of 2 GBs of RAM [2- 1 GB SO-DIMMs] as that is the most that the BIOS officially supports.

I would ask though why anyone would pay Sony's outrageous RAM prices when cheap, high-quality RAM is available everywhere.

I still don't understand the difference between the normal configuration on 2GBs of ram and the 'Sony 1GB VAIO Memory Expansion Module' option further down the list. Sorry.

So does that mean buying your own RAM and installing it into the SZ is pretty easy and simple? (Because I've never opened up a notebook before)

It's just marketing: One last chance to choose more RAM [thus increase Sony's profit] before you click 'done' and check out...

It is extremely easy. Just take out the battery, unscrew the RAM cover and the rest is self-explanatory: spread the retention clips to release the old RAM, remove, then angle the new RAM module into place [pins down] and click into place.

    Simple.

    Ohhhh I get it!

It would have been so much simpler to say:

Sony 1GB VAIO Memory Expansion Module = backup/replacement RAM

In other words just selling RAM like a normal computer shop, except alot more expensive.

    Hahaha. I'm such a nut.

Thanks for bearing with me Unpluggednonthefly.
