    Hi everyone,

I have a dilemma and I was hoping that some of you could help. I can buy either the Sony AR170 (just the base config) or the Sony FE690. I have gone to best buy and looked at the FE 690 and I like it. Both of the computers will do what I want, I just wanted to know if any of you had an AR and could say some good or bad things about it.

    Thanks so much :)

    Hi,
I see your postings in HP dv8000t. Guess you were contemplating to buy that and now switching to Sony. Good decision.
FE or AR-its upto you. Both are different as FE is 15 inch and AR is 17 inch. Weight is different. and so on. I don't think stores has AR in stock. I am waiting for my AR laptop. I should get it in a day or two. Will post a detailed review.

I am not usually that mobile. Hence I need more screen space to work. And would not prefer to use a desktop in office as I would also like to work at home. Hence I am going for AR.

Keep in mind that the based AR series have onli a nvidia 7400 turbocache. FE690 hav 7600. If ur into gamin, or graphic intensiv stuff, then u better choose the FE690.

Thanks drb. I wanted a better quality notebook and I think the Sony till give that to me. I will be looking forward to your detailed review of the AR. I would really like to know how the keyboard is and if it is any different from the FE. I will let you know about any other questions I have :) Thank you so much everyone!

the AR is obviously better with its blue ray compability, but i dont know about the size. Too big to carry it around.

I am not going to be carrying it around a lot so the weight issue shouldn't be that big. Does anyone do any programming on their FE? The resolution is lower then the AR and I was wondering if it was still enough to have two windows open at the same time or have an IDE open and not be cramped.

    Thanks again in advance!

thanks rhcpcrony! I'm still torn between the two, but it's looking more and more like the FE has the complete package.
