Hi everyone. I'm new to the sony board.

Just got an FW for my girlfriend and I am having the same erratic touchpad isues I had when I bought the Dell Studio 15. I sent the Dell back cause it was so bad, and there were other construction problems as well. Inreresting that the both use Alps touchpads :)

Sony tech support had me install a new driver for 32 bit Vista, and it's a little better, but still jumps occasionally without any touch. On the Dell forum, folks have mentioned using Synaptics drivers.

Does anyone else have this problem ? This a dealbreaker big time

    Thanks

    Hey radioking,

I don't have this problem, but Alps input equipment (keyboards + mice) have know to be crappy sometimes. Synaptics is a different brand, they are known for being more reliable, thinkpads traditionally use them as well as some sony's and other brands(don't know which). but, the vaio SR uses synaptics touchpads and there have been no reported problems that i have heard of. but to answer your questions, drivers should help, stuff like that is typically a driver issue. but you cannot install synaptics drivers on your alps touchpad, they are simply different hardware and thus incompatible. good luck with your FW! i would get a replacement...it doesnt seem to be a widespread issue
