    URGENT!

After clean installing my Vaio S, my backlit keyboard does not light up anymore..

When I permanently turn on the backlight, then it lights up..but when I set it to turn on only when it is dark, it doesn't turn on..I have installed all the drivers from the first post in the Sony Vaio S owners thread..I have both Sony Shared Library and Control Centre installed..

    PLEASE HELP!
    URGENT!

I believe it has something to do with hardware, as I tried another keyboard from my friends laptop. And his keyboard lights up on his, but not mine.

How can I solve this issue?

On mine sometimes the display is so bright the sensor thinks it is not dark. Try blocking the sensor window with your finger to see if the keyboard lights up. If not, your sensor h/w may not be working correctly (assuming you've installed all Sony libraries without trouble).

Hi again. Tried blocking the sensor window as well. Nothing works.

I know that my sensor is working b/c I tried my friends keyboard onto my laptop and it doesn't work. But once I put it back on his laptop, it works...so it's software issue, not hardware..

In that case either your keyboard light doesn't work or one of the Sony libraries are not installed properly. One or more of the following:

SPIC driver (Sony Programmable I/O Controller)
SFEP (Sony Firmware Extension Parser Driver)
    Sony Shared Library
    VAIO Power Management
    VAIO Event Service

My keyboard back light does work as I can set it to "Always turn on" and my backlight works...

Where do I download the SPIC driver and the Vaio Event Service from? It is not on the USA Vaio Esupport website..so I do not have SPIC and Event Service.

My FN buttons work, so I do not know the problem..

Thanks for all your help so far!

The ones I quoted are for my older laptop. Your model may have the software packaged differently. Get the original drivers for your exact model and re-install them, one at a time and re-booting each time to check. If you want to avoid unnecessary bloatware, I suggest you ask S owners' forum on what to avoid. I suspect, however, that it is called notebook utilities or something similar.
