Hi, I'm pretty much decided on this model but have never purchased a Sony before, let alone this model. Does anyone have any experience with the BX600 series, especially the 670?

I'm looking for a desktop replacement and this seems to fit the bill.

    My "needs" are:

    1920x1200 resolution with 17" screen
    wlan, bluetooth
    trackpoint (keyboard pointer)
    Core 2 Duo Processor

Seems only the business line of sony's have the trackpoint which is important to me.

I'd welcome all comments regarding the BX670 or any other machines that fit these needs.

    Thanks!

The BX670 series should fit your bill well. The BX600 series seriously updates some of the problems that the BX500 series had (i.e. heat issues and battery life) but you still get the benefits of the XBRIGHT screen, biometrics and such. I've been using a BX565 daily for close to a year and I love it.

Thanks, I've actually seen both of those reviews already and the model I'm asking about is more recent which is why I posted. Thanks for the quick reply though...much appreciated.

Anyone have the BX6xx series, especially the BX670?

I'm deciding between 15,4" FE and 15,4" BX. Now they are both core 2 duo 1,86, both will have 2gigs of ram the only difference is the graphics card. What's better: the nVidia 7600 128mb dedicated ram on FE, or ATI X1600 128mb dedicated (256mb hyper-memory) on BX? Which one's better? How does build quality compare? What to buy?

I've also decided on the BX670 (via newegg) as I have the exact same requirements that you do. Basically I wanted a 17" model with the best possible screen. There is a new computer from ASUS (the W2P) coming out sometime soon that will have similar specs, but probably more expensive since it'll have an HD-DVD.

In short, I've done fairly exhaustive research, and the Sony business model was the only one to satisfy my requirements at a reasonable price.

If you have lots of money, check out the Sony AR series or the Toshiba Qosmio G35-660. The Sager 5760 is also an option for those with large budget.

So do you have the bx670 currently now? If so how do you like it? Build quality and the features?

I'm going to order it today (Mon 11/6). If you can wait 1 week or so, I can give you a complete run down. The one that I was looking at was the BX670P42.

So I just got the BX670 today. These will be brief comments, but let me know if you have any direct questions.

-The thing is large. I'm coming off a 14" Fujitsu. It'll take a short time, but I'm not used to the size yet.

-The screen is great. So crisp. Again, much better than before.

-Build quality seems solid. There is a little torsional flexibility on the screen, but that's expected because it's huge. Pressing on the back doesn't affect the LCD.

-It's quiet. When not using the DVD drive, it's pretty much silent even with all the fans on.

-I haven't really given a thorough going over, but really, the Core2Duo isn't showing the MASSIVE gains that I was expecting coming off a P4. It's faster, but, maybe I was just expecting too much.

-64 processes running out of the box. That seemed like a lot.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the quick review...I placed my order yesterday and should have my 670p43 on Tuesday. I understand it's big and that's no problem...it will be my desktop replacement (replacing a dual proc P3 933Mhz with 1gb ram). I'm very much looking forward to the WUXGA resolution and I found the docking station on ebay for $100 or so, and ordered that as well.

Now let me help you out, did you know that you qualify for between $400 and $600 back with the trade in of any old laptop for you new BX purchase?

    Check it out!

I'll post my thoughts once I have my new machine setup as well.

I did have some questions though:

Is the battery life as poor as was stated, ie 1 hour with std battery?

And do you think we can use the batteries without the A at the end? They appear to be the same, a little less amperage, but sell very cheaply on ebay.
