I have a Sony Vaio SVF 1421C5E for about 18 months purchased in the UK with 2 years warranty (which does not cover the battery).
From new the battery drains when the laptop is shut down by about 10-20% per day. However if the battery is removed it does not drain at all even for 1 week or more when it is still at 99% charge when it is re-inserted back in the laptop and booted up.
It does the same whether the battery care function is enabled or not.
This is really frustrating if I am away from a mains supply and trying to use it.

Check for things like "Wake On LAN" in BIOS.

Sony Vaio VPCF13YFX bought in US in April 2011. Batter Care was on and totally drained the battery. I turned it off but the discharging has not stopped. It has been going on for a week now

Try shutting down the PC with a full battery and then leaving it overnight. If the battery doesn't drain then it's probably the issue described above. Also worth checking the battery wear - the battery might have a pretty small capacity after 5 years.
