Edit: OK, so far we know this is the new C series, CA 14" and CB 15", Sandy Bridge, USB 3.0, back-lit keyboard, 5 colour (white/black/pink/green/orange). possibly announcement date March 3rd 2011. CA and CB would use the same battery and AC adaptor.

btw on the FCC website there are 2 sony vaio filings.

one is tablet PC, with pictures expected to available on the 20th of January

    AK8PCG31211L is the model

then there is another model, the AK8PCG41211L with date for external photos being on march 3. maybe this is the new SA? not sure, whatever it is, Sony does not want to have photos appear before march, btw this model has a 19.5 V 4.7A battery according to the label, actually both have 19.5V XD

For once I agree with Arth, the colors are so ostentatious I think i actually like the green one, lol. Reminds me of a super sized brightly colored versions of the P. I could see myself getting the green one for my kid some day

Maybe it is because Sony felt so threaten about the design successes that Apple has in making their MBs/MBPs "stand out" from the crowd that they're resorting to these "funky" colors to overtake Apple in the external design stakes! :D

Oh, did anyone notice that the screen & screen bezel looks just like an Apple MBP? :p

Rly dont know what should I say about the colors
Maby the hardware is overpowered (like a octacore with 5Ghz, quad SLI GPU, 16GB DDR3, 512MB RAID SSD and a 20h Akku and that for 1000bucks), that every dont care about the color :p

That's the new C-series. CA, CB, I think.

Looks kind of cool, but I wouldn't want those colors! They're also available in black I think, so I wouldn't worry too much. :p

WOW, can they get more weird than this ??

No decent replacement for Z and now this ?!?!?!??!?!

Sony sucks at CES this year .. Is this all they have? Is the show over? Any chance they could bring out some interesting stuff, still?

The laptop itself, beside the color, looks like every other laptop out there, probably just another shovel-laptop made in China.

As has been mentioned in other threads, these notebooks are labelled as "VAIO Design Concept" at CES. This is why they haven't been announced. This includes the rumored SA or Z replacement.

In any case, these colors remind me of nokia's cell phone colors... when was the last time you saw HTC/Motorola/Samsung's flagship phones in these colors:

I wouldn't want to be caught out with the neon ones lol :p. Well, maybe i could strap one to myself while walking around at night... HEY! Perfect for University students! :D now there's no need to wear a neon safety vest :p.

The black/purple is starting to grow on me... looks a little carbon fiberish... i dunno...

carbon fiber was the first thing that came to mind for me too but it still just looks like cheezy under that plastic, maybe if the whole entire bezel was carbon fiber now that would be awesome lol

I am primarily looking at a new laptop to use with my Dj gear so the neon green might actually work well in my case haha

What's wrong with sony!? Have they been smoking.... !?

First the ridiculously ugly SA/SB and now this!? WTH?

I realize C has always been more teenage oriented, but what happened to the nice elegant example Z, S and Y gave? Is Sony trying to compete with Acer and Toshiba now? :( Pity!

The SA is ugly? Wow, that's a first. Other than the fact that I miss the barrel-like hinges with the glowing power button, the SA looks like a well-designed piece of machinery. Very solid construction and minimal, sleek design.

I like the design of the Z like everyone else here but the separate piece of plastic palm-rest and the different design cues it had going on (like the silver-coloured top and the black, plastic bottom) were a weakness. I like that the SA is made out of one piece or at least looks that way, it's simple and elegant.

I agree with you. When I saw concepts I though something like "What is this? Where is barrel hinge. And those ugly chrome touchpad buttons with glossy finish". But now I think it's really cool notebook. Of course I still love my S, but the new one is also amazing.
Like Wolf said - it's mix of minimal, seamless design and very good specification ;)

The new C-series also look nice, but some colors are just strange.

blah blah blah ok back on topic here guys. Alright so I'm a little new to the sony models here but I'm assuming this new CA and CB line will be a replacement of the current EA and EB line? If so, does anyone recall what colors choices were available for that line during launch? or more importantly what im trying to figure out here is if it is common for sony to add more color choices to such line later on in production?

Is the 1080p screen on the 14in Vaio a premium display, plus display, or something else?

Will there be a fingerprint reader option or is that only for the Z and more business oriented models?

    From the press release:

Wow I didnt catch that before but I'm still skeptical of an actual native 1920x1080 resolution lcd panel on that 15.5 inch screen...if so that would be sooo bad ass! I would rather have the smaller CA but if that is true about the lcd panel then i must have!!

The actual EB, which is 15.5" laptop, can be configured with a Vaio Plus Full HD display. It doesn't seem incredible at all that they'll offer this option on the CB ;)
