I just picked up a Red Sony CS series notebook and I really like it so far, but it seems to have much more backlight bleed than my older HP ZD7000 or my Samsung desktop LCD do. Does this have to do with the glossy screen or did I just get a bad example? It seems like it doesnt take much vertical head movement for the blacks to wash out more than I'm used to. Normal?

The blacks washing out isn't backlight bleed, it's just distortion, which sounds worse but really it's very normal. Backlight bleed is when you see the light coming from the edges. The blacks and other colors contrasting and clashing when the screen is tilted or looked at from the side is a very normal thing, it happens with Matte & Glossy LCDs.

I know the difference, its got bleed from the top and bottom, being darkest in the center, greyer towards the edges. moving vertically just makes it more pronounced.

I'm sorry, it seemed to me by how I read it that you were confusing them.

no problem at all! does anyone else have a CS that seems to have a little more bleed than usual?
