Sony Can't fix my z1290X offering me 'comporably' equipped machine. In my case, that means I keep an extra battery and A/C adapter

Bought my nicely spec'd my rig nicely.
    -Premium Carbon Display
    FULL HD 1920x1080
    I spec'd the i7 620m and windows 7 Pro

this was in Late June. Come 12.10.11 I drop off my Z1290X at a Sony backstage store within the Sony Style store. Staff is professional and count the days down.

they are STILL not ready the third week and then claim that Sony made the decision to replace all defective units with brand new ones. At least they allow you to configure a few things for personlization

At the very best I was expecting him rise above and gain bak his voice. This has hap

HOWEVER, I was taken aback from some of their viewpoints with their response. Sony acts like a martignette and could put lives in danger.

I am thoroughly confused from reading your post. So... are you mad about them offering you a 'comparably' equipped machine? You don't mention their offer... and you get to keep a battery and A/C adapter... compared to some of the people's experience with Sony Support on this forum you seem well off. Aslo, I've only read of VGN-Z's being replaced with VPC-Z's and all dead VPC-Zs get sent in and they take about a month or so and they don't get a new one, but get a fixed one that potentially has a scratched lid by Sony technicians.

I'm growing increasingly concerned that Sony, acting as a 'martignette' may very well be putting us all in some sort of mortal danger.

I'm wondering if perhaps he was referring to a 'martinette', i.e. a whip for punishing people or the person who would wield such a whip (in which case our lives wouldn't really be in danger but we might still be punished nonetheless)

Do they have a new Z to replace it with since according to several threads here the Z is discontinued?

I think I understand the post except for this last line. I can't even begin to guess what it means. Can someone interpret it for me?

Yes, I can do that for you. What happens is that if you google 'This has hap' what you find is that Hap refers to either:

The Homeowners Assistance Program (for military personnel)
    -OR-
The Humanitarian Accountability Partnership (works around the world)
    -OR-
There is a writer named Hap Wilson (I think that he could be talking about him)

So, bottom line, I think it's clear that he wants Hap Wilson to speak louder.

It's officially been out of my possession since early Nov. I have a core i7 and 1920x1080 rez screen. The only display model that comes close is the signature model.

I love my sales guy. He ran with the signature model and threw a hail mary like a champ and I admire the dude for trying in style. Had that pass actually landed, i'd be jumping up and down for you.

At $4700 that thing retails at like twice what mine does, but if you look at the specs, they're of equal, comparable or greater value.

Anyone here know the procedure and people involved when making a goodwill adjustment on price? I've seen some success stories before, but my experience feels like pulling teeth.

If I understood what you were actually asking, I might be able to help.

So they're only offering a replacement laptop that is of inferior spec in some way?

They only have display model Z's which i'm delighted to accept the signature edition. Some reason all the money men in Sony are CHEAP!

You still haven't explained what was wrong with your laptop!

All I've been able to glean from your posts so far is that you had something wrong with your laptop, Sony couldn't repair it and you are getting given a new one. What's the problem with that?

If the new model is inferior in any way I think you'd be within your rights to refuse it as a suitable replacement for the older one, but I'm struggling to work out whether it is...

I think he's saying the new one is nicer, it's a signature edition. However the difference in cost between his old one and the replacement, is high. And Sony isn't cooperating by lowering the price (or maybe not lowering it enough).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I gathered reading the posts, I believe the OP is trying to say that Sony is too cheap to just give him the top of the line signature edition model as a replacement for his broken & cannot be fixed notebook even though that signature model is "comparable" to his original specs. :)

I guess my dry wit is invisible at times, and cheesy bits of sarcasm need work.

As i've said before, I'm perfectly willing to participate in bridging the gap, but Sony much likes a Mercedes-Benz dealer are much more rigid when it comes to participating.

There are many ways to measure cost. For example, i'll be getting replacement value near $2700. That display model is listed at $4700 but it has a few scuffs on the bottom and been played with countless times. In addition, it's been discontinued further dropping the value.

I asked the head store manager dude how much would i have to pay out of pocket to bring that bad boy home. He told me $1000. I asked if he'd be willing to make a goodwill adjustment. Using his textbook knowledge that he already did and that the real difference should be $2000.

In practical terms outside the classoom and into real life, the Z display model is diminishing in value given the market, and physical condition and the fact that it is a display model So the difference is far less than $2000. I just wish that manager dude could come to terms with these situations.

I've actually given up attempting to understand what the OP is trying to say. Maybe I'm being lazy, but I've never had to put so much effort into reading a thread just to get an idea of what's going on!

Is there a chance they can fix your original laptop and resolve it that way?

If I bought a laptop that broke and they couldn't fix it under warranty, I'd be holding out for equivalent or better specs on every component of the laptop - since that was what I paid for in the first place.

The retail price is entirely irrelevant unless they don't have enough stock of Zs to find a replacement, in which case they'd surely reimburse you what you originally paid.

But if they offered me a replacement that was inferior, I'd tell 'em to stick it where the sun don't shine as well. I can see where he's coming from now he's explained it.

All this time, I was hoping they could just fix it. About a month ago they did offer to replace it with a same spec CTO model or a store credit only usable at that location. Perhaps I was a bit too greedy since at the time I was asking for freebies that were not realistic. Plus the 1390x would already have been a small bump in Mhz from 2.66 to 2.8ghz. So I decided to wait it out to get it back.

A month ago they described the problem as a simple backlog of warranty repairs. Now they tell me they me it's not fixable but they can't tell me why.

In conclusion, we reached an agreement where I get a gift card equivalent to the purchase price without any restriction meaning I could buy a TV or refurb Z.

i still have the a/c adapter, ext life battery, leather sleeve and noise canceling headphones. I'm waiting for the new Z to appear before making a decision. All the accessories w/the exception of the ext. battery should be compatible and that will be a big factor in my decision.

I think I would be reasonably satisfied. You get store credit for the value of the computer your purchased, which means essentially you used that computer for free during the time you owned it (assuming you are going to make use of the store credit and are willing to buy another Sony).

The store credit doesn't expire, does it?
