I did a clean install of Vista Ultimate. No real problems. But recognized that Polycoms PVX Video Conferencing sw does not work in Vista. I need it for work. So I used the Shrink command and created a small partition for an XP install. No problems there. I then attempted to install the Sony XP driver files. When the file runs its compatibility check it determines that my VGN-SZ330P is no longer a VGN-SZ330P.
So My Question is: Is there any way to extract the .EXE driver file contents so I can install the drivers manually?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Try WinRar -> http://www.rarlab.com/rar/wrar37b3.exe

Prior to your recommendation I downloaded both winrar v3.62 and winzip v11. Both responded back when extract to specified folder option was chosen: No Archives Found In Selected Files. It didnt matter which driver EXE I pointed the compression utility at. After your email I uninstalled WinRAR v3.62 and downloaded the version you recommended. Same result. I am at a complete loss now. Thanks for your response. Alan.

Alan,
0) Download the driver packages from Sony.
1) Run each of the driver packages. The installer will quit after extracting files and running the model verification. **The installer MUST run, even though you know it will fail the model check.
2) Look in %windrive%\Users\%Username%\AppData\Local\Temp (where %windrive% is the drive letter where Windows is installed, ie C:\ and %Username% is the user account you are logged in as). You should see a handful of folders beginning with GLF. Some will be copies of the driver packages you downloaded. The particular folders you are looking for, will contain the uncompressed contents of the driver package. You may have to hunt through all the GLF folders to find the ones you want, as the name is semi-random.
3) Run the setup.exe in the uncompressed folders for the drivers you would like to install - no model verification necessary!
Good luck!

Oh and it's free!

Thanks IBOHN. I checked GLF* files and they are in fact files not folders.
Here are the contents from the Install Log which is found in the same directory:
*** Installation Started 02/14/2007 8:20 ***
Title: Sony® Shared Library for Microsoft® Windows® XP
Source: E:\2007-02-14\01.13AM\SOASSL-00598801-US.EXE | 02-14-2007 | 01:28:44 | 2244928
File Overwrite: E:\Documents and Settings\Alan\Local Settings\Temp\GLFB.tmp | 10-17-2005 | 13:51:58 | | 805 | 361ffd51
File Copy: E:\Documents and Settings\Alan\Local Settings\Temp\GLFC.EXE | 05-02-2003 | 15:13:12 | | 151552 | e3b5362a
File Overwrite: E:\Documents and Settings\Alan\Local Settings\Temp\GLFD.tmp | 10-05-2005 | 09:26:44 | | 14615 | 424bba90
You can see that when you run the Share Library .EXE it generates the GLFC.EXE file. I tried running the 148K file and unfortunately it did nothing (literally). It does not generate any noticeable CPU or HD activity when run.
Thanks again for your help. -
Alan,
Yes there will also be files that begin with GLF, but what we are after are folders which begin with GLF, located in C:\Users\Alan\AppData\Local\Temp. (It appears you have an XP installation on drive E:\. The folder "Documents and Settings" has been deprecated in Vista, and is replaced with much less cumbersome "Users".)
"AppData" is a hidden system folder, so you will need to type the path into the address bar of Windows Explorer (c:\users\alan\appdata). From there, navigate into "local" then into "temp". Scroll down a bit and you should find the folders beginning with GLF.
Good luck!

lbohm, I guess I wasnt as clear as I should have been. Partition 1 - Drive C is Vista and Partition 2 - Drive E is XP. The driver files are being installed on Drive E for XP. The Vista and XP are both new and clean installs. Therefore, there is nothing in the XP E:\Documents and Settings\Alan\Local Settings\Temp dir that could confuse me. The contents of the dir include:
7 GLF* files and the install log. Nothing else. Thanks. -
Ibohn, Apologies you are correct....even though I booted into XP and ran the driver .EXEs in XP the folders were created in the C:\User\Alan.....directory. Now as you said - there is no real tie between the folder name and the contents and the driver .EXE name. So, I will take it from here and thanks for your assist!! Regards, Alan.
