    Sony Drive problem

    Friend's sony laptop has decided to detach itself from its D drive. I've tried everything from system restore to uninstalling and reinstalling, without the boot cds, xp cds, etcs. I cant get it to locate that stupid D drive. Anyone know where i can find the software for reinstallation of the following drive:
    MAT S H I T A (appearantly there is a filiter for synonym of poop) UJ-840D
    The computer is as follows:
    SONY FS VGN-FS640
    (laptop)
    any help would be appreciated.

    should autodetect it. it's not a software issue. reseat the drive.
