Sony Duo 13- Do Portable USB External monitor and USB dongle for ethernet work on this machine?

I know some machines like SP2 or surface 2 can't remember which cannot power USB external monitors.

In general what determines whether a tablet or laptop can work with Portable USB External monitor and USB dongle for ethernet ? And how do you find out without buying/returning the device?

Often you need two USB ports since many monitors need more power than a single USB port can deliver. Since the Duo has two, it's fine. But if you want to use the USB Ethernet dongle at the same time, you may not be able to. However the flagship Duo's ship with an Ethernet Access Point which plugs into the PSU.

USB3.0 has a maximum specification current draw of 0.9A, which equates to 4.5W power because USB is 5V.

The Asus monitor that's currently being discussed in Accessories claims "<5W" power draw. This could be 4.9W. *Some* USB ports may allow this draw. Many will not, and you'll have no way of knowing unless someone puts up a list of what laptops allow what power draw from the USB port (and that very likely ain't gonna happen, ever).

If the laptop does not allow the power draw from a single USB port, you'll need a double header cable to draw power from two USB ports simultaneously.

What you should bear in mind that higher power draw devices (i.e. devices which exceed 4.5W from USB3 and 2.5W from USB2) more often than not will not work from a single socket.

i would recommend taking in your vaio duo to your nearest computer retailer and testing it out there.
