So, does anybody know how to get the latest WHQL drivers from NVIDIA (275.33) working on a F series with NVIDIA GeForce 330M?
I've been looking for days, but no luck. And it seems I'm not the only one having this problem. Some people even get the BSOD, others can't install, etc.
I can install the drivers, but apparently they won't work properly once I restart Windows. Can't play videos at all.
I get this error with WMP trying to play a .wmv sample from Microsoft.

Older drivers work just fine.
According to this document, only Sony VAIO F Series with NVIDIA GeForce 310M, NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M and NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M are supported with the 275.33 drivers (no 330M).
Is there a way to make the drivers work? maybe modded drivers?

Achusaysblessyou eecs geek ftw :D
Do you NEED the latest? if not, why not use the older ones. I don't know how to mod my own drivers, but there are guides out there to do that (follow the hybrid graphics drivers thread on this forum)
-
Well, at this moment I need the latest to get better video reproduction using LAV CUVID Decoder with CUDA 4.0+.
I tried to mod the drivers using a guide I found here, but the original nvszc.inf from the 275.33 did have the VEN_10DE&DEV_0A29&SUBSYS_9067104D (which is the 330M on my pc) and everything there was apparently ok. -
Have you tried the latest Beta driver to see if it solved it? NVIDIA DRIVERS 275.50 BETA
I know the supported products mention the 335M instead of the 330M for Sony F series but I believe that must be a misprint because it says it is for the F series and the F series does not have a 335 GPU. I don't think it is a matter of it not being supported on your laptop - I think it is just a bug you are experiencing. See if the beta fixes it. I have the 425M and have not experienced your problem so I can't test it myself.
Edit: Just wanted to add that there are several people in the F series lounge with your GPU that have been successfully running 275.33 since it was released. The only problem I recall is this one I will link to that was specific to Flash sites with Firefox. He later did another install and the problem was resolved. He attributed it to a bad install. http://forum.notebookreview.com/son...es-owners-thread-part-6-a-46.html#post7599241
If you didn't before, whenever you install a new version, I would suggest doing a clean install of the driver. You have this option when you run the installer. Maybe you already did that - just suggesting in case you didn't. -
Yeah, I also tried the 275.50 beta drivers. No luck.
I searched around and found other people with the same problem.
Also did a clean install twice following a guide posted on the nvidia forums (using Driver Sweeper).
I think it's the same problem as the one posted in this thread. -
Hmm, well, there must be something else on your computer that it is not interacting well with since it is not a universal issue either with the F series or with the 330M GPU. Did you try what the last post in that thread suggested about the audio drivers? He said he wasn't sure which driver it was unfortunately but there does have to be something along those lines happening.
The person who started that thread has both a different laptop and different GPU and theirs is not supported in this release, which means anything and everything can go wrong for them. There was that one person in that thread who had an F11 with a 310 who had the problem, but again several people with that same combination are running the release without issue, so something must be different on the laptops with this issue. If all remnants of other NVIDIA drivers have been removed before the install of the new driver, then the best bet would be another driver causing the conflict.
