i just got the FE, and the volume even on maximum is still quite low. i was wondering if there was an easy way to adjust the volume louder than what it is supposed to go to. i read somewhere there was a way, but i forgot where i read that. thanks.

the sound reality settings does the same thing the default volume controls do, they don't amplify the sound, ur going to get the same sound whatsoever, and btw what do you have for the sampling rate, and do you have spdif output checked, with what khz?

Veering off the original topic of this post...

Do the FEs use the same Sound Reality chip as the SZs?

I dont know if sound reality is a chip, it uses the sigmatel high definition audio codec, and i think sound reality is just a program.

u know whats weird? the sound the notebook makes at startup (with the vaio logo) is really loud. this means the laptop is capable of producing loud audio. nevertheless, once in windows everything is much lower....boggles my mind!~

exactly totono, when increasin the bios volume, the vaio logo volume is loud, i wish that same loudness can be put into the normal windows audio. hopefully, they get a fix for this, or someone finds a way to solve this problem. other than that, this laptop is great. just this issue bothers me. the last driver update for sigmatel was 2/13/06 i believe, they did not have any audio driver updates after that, the vaio update keeps pointing me to update to this one thing that requires the dock, but I dont need that update. I doubt talking to some customer service for sony about the volume will be of any help, unless overwhelming complaints about hte volume comes, they might provide a fix for it.
