how much dedicated memory is in the sony fe geforce 7400
how can I turn on turbo cache and how do i manage it? Is there software?
Thanks for helping
-
it has 64mb dedicated, turbo cache is turned on automatically when its needed.
-
you sure it's only 64? i don't see how a 64 meg video card can score 2000 points in 3d mark 05? pretty sure its 128 meg graphics card.
-
how did you find out it was 64mb dedicated? sony advertises it as 128mb dedicated.
hp has the same card for 128mb dedicated as well.
i got around 1650 for 3dmark 05 -
yea i think its 128, with up to 128 shared memory...
its 64 bit but it doesnt mean its 64 dedicated, not too sure though. -
Sony has been unclear. some reps claim 256mb and others 128mb...
Is there a way to manage the nvidia card? can i turn off turbocache all together. -
Nvidia's drivers make adjusting advanced features difficult.
It's a 64bit graphics processor, and hence the memory bus width is 64bit. I'm quite sure however that the dedicated video memory is more than this, 128mb dedicated, possibly more. -
Sorry guys its 64mb, Ive spoken with sony and they have said they cant tell me for sure, if you look at other threads you will see the same, its 256mb through turbocache, and it does not score 2000 3dmark05's I wrote the guide on 3dmark05 scores {literaly its in the guide section) On mine it scores 1800 max and thats what others get aswell, the SZ on the otherhand which is confirmed to be 128 scores 2000 why do you think that might be?. When using PCmark05 its pretty obvious "total local agp memory 64mbs" i dont see how that could be confusing...
BTW sony is pretty clear 256mb can only be acheived through turbocache.
Also No where have i seen sony say its 128mb -
the sz has has a smaller screen but both have the same resolution, so we could assume that the pixels in FE are bigger, so it takes more rendering for the FE, or something like that? Also NVIDIA.com doesnt list 2 kinds of geforce 7400's, so both cards have to be the same.
-
thats ridiculous rhcpony, their the same card just with different amounts of ram hence why their isnt two listings. More pixels create more strain a higher number of pixels would result in a lower score but what your saying dosent really make sense. Its 64mb, Take a look at the FE2 their putting a 7600 in that with only 128mb dedicated ram which suggests they tend to go low on the dedicated ram most other 7600 chips are 256mb
*EDIT* oh a very easy way to find out the amount of vram, download the latest atitool i think its 0.25 beta 14, open it up and go to settings "MEMORY SIZE = 64MB" feel free to check it out thats 3 programs telling you its 64mb. -
hey i'm with him in regards to this..i find it VERY hard to believe a 64meg graphics card can achieve a score of 2000 even with turbocache. Sony's site says clearly in the PDF it's 128 with turbocache 256. In propeties my card is reporting 128 of phys memory. If you honestly believe the SZ and the FE are using different amounts of ram your misleading people. I would like you to clearly mark your claim because i'm not convinced either. They differ by a couple of hundred points, which could eaily be driver or system configuration related. -jess

Yeh SZ is 128MB dedicated for sure (I can confirm that)...No clue if the turbocache allows for the card to go upto 256MB...
I suppose you need more RAM for it to be able to use turbocache.
Though on the whole im happy even with 128MB ded 7400 -
okay Jballa, no where have i seen a score of 2000 for 3dmark05 for the FE it gets 1800 MAX thats 200 points less than the SZ with confirmed 128, I also read through the pdf it says "256mb with turbocahce" it does not mention 128mb anywhere, dont just quote stuff from other threads blindly, how about you do a bit of research for yourself?.
Aer0sense were talking about the FE, no one is disputing the vram for SZ. -
I was trying to prove your point...but I dont think you got that did you? -
I think one thing we can all agree on is that Sony is full of shiitzen when it comes to the hardware their laptops contain...
-Jason -
Agreed. And sorry Aer0sense, I just dont like it when people ignore all fact for the **** sony passes out, lets face it their reps know jack **** about their products.
-
Does anyone know of a way to overclock the Nvidia 7400 in the Sony FE?
Using software? -
-
its funny you should mention that aer0, I have a apple store in my suburb and a apple store next to my uni, the university one there are usually 7 or 8 people working in there besides being quite a small store, they sit around and chat and completly ignore you, I stood in front of a pair for almost five minutes before asking for some help, The apple store in my suburb is completly different its bigger but only has half the staff and no matter how rushed they are they always help you out. And Vaio probally the easiest way to overclock it is download the latest ati tool program, I overclocked mine with that and it overclocks quite well.

Man talk about attitude problem. Hah I bet your watching this thread now. Now heres some common sense for you since youre so blessed with knowing everything. WHY would they put a LOWER power card in a sony fe then in a sony sz? The FE is has a bigger screen, and is to be tailored toward light gaming just as the SZ. So what that your a technician. I worked for a system analyst for four years and for my university 5 years. Just because you have a program that reads you this number, still doesn't explain my display property settings of showing 128 video ram. Either you truly know what you are talking about, or are just being arrogant in denying my simple statement. It's the same fricking card in both machines, if the SZ is 128 megs then why would a 64mb card score slightly lower? It should score SIGNIFICANTLY lower and maybe your car has a flux capacitor to. My source is display settings, so if you can show me somthing legit please, screen shot it. Peace

That was posted by Matt H1. Downloaded the latest ATITOOL did you eh? ATI..wow last time i checked NVIDIA made our graphics cards. I apologize everyone, they did make a 64meg video card for the Sony FE and MAtt H1 owns it. *brushes shoulders off* -
Hmm you missed a bit of dandruff Jballa, I suppose pcmark05 also only works on Ati? and the latest AtiTool supports Nvidia cards once again it looks like youve failed to make any research. you know.. like how you made up those 3dmark scores and that pdf?. Also from the many many articles ive read looking at 3dmark05 scores that i used to write my article in the guides section 200 points difference is about right when comparing 64mb + 192 shared mem to 128mb +128mb shared mem though you would know that had you bothered to research it. There are many reasons to use a lower ram card in the FE such as Heat and power, maybe sony couldnt acheive a reasonable battery life with 128? considering the added power requirements of the brighter and larger screen thats quite plausable.

You've found gold...fools gold. http://www.notebookforums.com/archive/index.php/t-81294.html
About avergae for a 64 meg card even in the mighty x600 W3v Asus. Tell me almighty one, what 64meg card do YOU know of that pull 1800 in 3d mark 05 and i will shutup! -
How did you overclock the nvidia 7400 in the FE with the ATI tool? when i downloaded it it wouldn't even work properly. any link for download site??
-
vaio http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/259 , And I have already explained this to you jballa and as the 7400 is a current gen card and the x600 is old gen taking this into account when using 3dmark05 which with each year change tests for newer technologies, the x600 may not have thos technologies and will get a lower overall score, you must also take into account that it has 192mb of shared memory a simple example is the x1400 the direct ati competitor, with a extra 256mb of memory it can score a extra 400 points.

I need help on overclocking. I tried ocing and i got 532 on 3dmarks 05..not what i wanted....i restored the default and got 1702.
please help on ocing the nvidia..thanks. -
okay when you have ati tool installed, Make sure your plugged in, oc'ing isnt very wise on battery. Just slowly move the bars up from the stock 450/350 I can get mine going to 500/400 comfortably and up to 550 before i get stability issues, remember dont overclock unless you need to your just risking the safety of your very expensive item.
-
What are your highest 3dmark 05 scores? do u think video editing would be affected by the graphics card?
-
What is your highest 3dmark 05 score for the FE nvidia?
mine was 1852. -
Should be fine then. -
you have to click the "set" button otherwise it wont set them, my highest score is about 1870, Video editing isnt effected by the GPU unless your using very specialised software which you probally arnt. Cool guide by the way Aer0sense.
-
Thanks...but not really a guide just a quick summary of what you have to do to save the settings.
-
lol i meant your themeing tutorial.
