You might want to call the store before going. I went by a store today that listed the FE as available atthis particular store and they looked at me like I was crazy when I asked about it.

I also went by a local Sonystyle store. They didn't have one either. I don't really understand why Sony would want or allow the FE to be available at a box store like Best Buy before it is available at their own store.

I was a Best Buy yesterday morning and they had the FE and the screen was the best laptop screen I have ever seen. The whites were truly white on the FE and the screen had a purple tint and seemed to cut down on the glare. I don't know if the other Sony screens use this screen but I was very very impressed.

Looks like I may be alone on this, but I had mixed reactions to the new FE screen when I saw it yesterday at Best Buy. First the positives...the screen on the FE is very bright...noticeably brighter than the FS (which was sitting next to it). In addition, the colors were incredibly vivid...more so than the FS, which is already a great screen. Zero light leakage, another plus. However, when looking straight on at the FE screen, it got noticeably dimmer toward the edges on both sides. This is not a problem with the FS. In addition, whites on the FE, though brighter than the FS, had a somewhat grainy look...not the liquidy smooth white on the FS. I thought the FE was still a great screen, much better than most, but these two issues disappointed me. Maybe it was simply the one I was looking at...I'm very anxious to hear comments from others who have seen it.

Yeah, was a MicroCenter today and I noticed their FEs screen was darker at the lower corners

The express card memory card reader sticks out just a little bit as well.

Again Sony has produced a very nice machine in the FE... Too bad their customer service, and their ability to deliver something is CRAP ....they promised on the 1st, 7th, 13th and after calling again today... maybe the end of feb. but most likely the beginning of march

    :sony: sucks ...Their excuse?!?!

Machines which were customized were mixed up with ready made machines... and customized machines will ship much later than the ready made machines, and "there is nobody here who knows when the customized FE's will ship"

I messed with it at my local BestBuy...very impressive, the only downfall is to get it at such a good price you are stuck with a IGP...shame to have such a good machine and only an IGP unless you want to buy online at Sony and spend around 300 more for the dedicated GPU.

Its worth it...That notebook is awesome.

Its better then the SZ hotswitching video cards...because of the bigger screen...

Sony has outdone themselves yet again!

I imagine they don't actually ship from Sony USA to Canada, do they? I'm going to the US in early March - do you know if the Sony warranty is good in Canada for a US purchased machine? Considering the SZ is likely not to be available in Canada until late March, it's mighty tempting...

Its fine as long as the laptop comes with "Sony Overseas Service". When you order online you can buy it, I dont know about buying it in a shop though.

May I know why you chose the SZ over the FE?

Ok i called again today to confirm that my FE would ship this week... after seeing on their website that customized FE's weren't being built and shipped until APRIL... and he said around the end of this week but said they would not confirm this with an e-mail when i asked.... I then asked to transferred to a technical person so i could ask about the RAM... I asked how much dedicated V-RAM it has... and he said he thinks 64mb than put me on hold saying he would check to make sure... He came back and said that the FE with the nVidia gpu has 128MB of dedicated V-RAM....

So iam thinking that customized FE's are being delayed while they try and fulfill their current pre-orders... at least i hope that this is the case, because iam not waiting until April....

I travel every week with my laptop in a backpack, and I really want to keep it as light as possible, so the SZ fits the bill. At 3.7lbs, the Pro version is the same weight as my current X31 Thinkpad, so very appealing... And of all the Core Duo machines announced so far it has the best combination of weight and power.
