    I have VGN-FE770G with 1G memory installed (512x2)

It's been almost three years, so i figure since my FE770 has 945GM and it

supports 4G... I thought I buy 2x2GB and install it. I saw it on this and other

forums that people with 945GM chipset have successfully manage to do so,

thus I know its possible. I don't mind capping at 3.XGB cause I could

use PAE and other Ramdisk to compensate.

Problem is BIOS recognizes 3072MB, which is normal...

(at least accoring to my search on many forums)

but after Windows tries to load up.... right before Log-In screen it freezes.

(Or I should say, when my 512X2 was installed it transit to Log-In screen, but 2X2GB won't do that and just black screen)

I need to know what's the problem, I went back to my old 512X2

It works fine... so it has something to do with Memory I installed.

Since bios recognizes and POST has no problem... I assume memory is not

defect at this moment although I got no memory tester.

I am suspecting it has something to do with OS because I used Windows XP

MCE, whereas all other threads I read, people reported using WinXP Pro in

general. Since I need to frag my hard and reinstall my OS cuz It's been

forever since last clean install, I am willing to do unspeakably long process or

reinstall WinXp... still have the full Pro version from circa 2001... actually SP2

because I combined original with SP2 files....

Anyway Let me know ASAP guys. Thank you

    Update
P/S I tried variety of combinations with my four memory modules 2 original 512MB Hynix PC4200 modules came with laptop and 2 new 2GB Corsair Valueselect PC5300 modules. I also tried differnt comb with different slots as my laptop has two slots. It seems so far only 2 x 2GB combination is the only comb with the problem.

check the specs first of the memory you're installing and you can also tried to reinstall OS while new memory is installed.

    @Babydarklord

Well Sony Spec is 2G Max but I know that's false cuz I had some time to test

my memory with differen combinations. 2GB stick (PC5300) + 512MB stick (PC

4200) BIOS recognizes it as 2.5G, it POST and Boot... Applications work fine

for more than 30 mins... before it ran out of batter so my laptop went into

hibernate. There is no reason to suspected... its somehow restricted to 2G

max as when 2G + 512MB was used... Windows recognizes as 2.49G

(Integrated Video... Part of Ram is used for that purpose). As soon as I get

home, I will try other comb.
