Hi please help me since I'm going to decide between two very similar laptops.

    Here it goes:

    Sony FE790

15.4" WXGA TFT with XBRITE-HiColor Technology and MOTION EYE Camera
    NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600
Wireless LAN (802.11a\b\g) and Bluetooth Technology
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7200 / ICD 2.0 GHz
    1 GB DDR-SDRAM (DDR2-533, 1 GBx1) Windows Vista Premium Ready
    80 GB Hard Disk Drive
    DVD+-R DL_DVD+-RW_DVD-RAM Drive
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (No Installation DVD)
    $1588.00 after tax and everything

    HP Pavilion DV2000t
FREE Upgrade to 15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen
HP IMPRINT Finish + Microphone + Webcam
    1.0GB DDR2 SDRAM (2x512MB)
    Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth
80 GB 5400 RPM SATA Hard Drive
    Super Multi 8X DVD+/-R/RW w/Double Layer Support
    256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400
    Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor T7200 (2.00 GHz)
Genuine Windows XP Home Edition (System Recovery DVD w/Windows XP Home Edition)
    $1528.00 (After Tax)

I know beside the NVIDIA 7400 v. 7600 there is not much significant difference (Maybe only in name Sony is better) but certainly the look on HP is winner here. I wanted to know if that glossy finish of HP will rub off in time or is it part of the case rather than just cover. I have seen so many FEs and all are dirty due to costumers touching them. Is that the case and if it is, can it be cleaned for example with R-O-H (Alcohol)?

Please list pros and cons as mush detailed as possible

Sony has cracked it's shell these days with it's quality atandards, but since the graphic card is MUCH better, I'd go with the Sony.[edited by moderator]

On a side note, I configured both these laptops for around $1300, but was only able to get that price with regular core duo for the fe790. Would you rather take the 6000t with the core 2 duo and go7400 or the fe790 with the core duo and go7600?

I'd take the Sony. Core 2 Duo isn't that much better than Core Duo, while the GeForce 7600 is much better than the 7400. Contrary to Juz_Follow_ATI's statement, the Sony actually has better physical quality because it is made out of magnesium alloy while HP's is made out of good 'ol plastic.

Well I think you configured the FE690, the FE790 is up on sony US site and it has core 2 due from T5500 to T7600. My price is for T7200 (2.0 G)

But I am very thankfull for your inputs and looking forward for more as I make my decision.

BTW, the sony has a CardBus on the side of ExpressCard 54/34 and that's a plus, but HP only has ExpressCard 54/34.

    Thanks people

I talked to Sony and they said the GPU (7600) can not handle Vista Primum because of 64+64=128 mb ram of graphic card. The ram on system is 533 instead of 667.

The HP dv6000t the ram is 667 and the 7400 is actually 128+128=256 mb and can do bettre on vista primum. The numebrs on nvidia are just misleading.

Persiankink lets get real. Both of your choices will not handel the vista Os.You may try to pull it off with the hp but failure will be the outcome .If thats your future Os hope you may want to upgrade your notebook spec selections.
    Good luck

Both will handle Vista fine, even older computers will, the only conflict about vista being handles is the Aero interface and the GMA950 will handle that. I don't know why people think they need to spread unconfirmed rumors...

    unconfirmed rumers hmmm
Intresting way you have phrased that comment.I am truly sorry I have insulted you.
To run vista -full version the specs of the above notebooks will not have the power to give you the true speed of the Os not forgetting the new Aero graphics. A wise upgrade of your notbook choices would be beneficial for smooth operation or get youself a nice notebook cooling pad.
    Good Luck

    sony1,
maybe if you backed your arguments with some technical data they would be more believeable. the configurations that were posted on this thread are well above average for today's standards. "power to give you the true speed of the Os" hmmmm

hey sony1, it really shows that its your brother that works there and not YOU. all that article says is that if graphics are integrated (if u know what that is) then it wont run the aero glass feature of vista. neither of the configurations at the begining of this thread have integrated graphics (nvidia 7600 and 7400). get your facts straight buddy before you try to answer dumb questions.
