I just Purchased the FS660 notebook and I would like to get some feed back from other owners of the FS model to comment if their battery (in the back of the notebook) is loose and moves some. When I move the notebook you can feel the battery in the note book move a little. There is some movement(small) in all directions but it does not fall out. I wanted to find out if this is normal or should I try to return it for a replacement. I do find it hard to believe that Sony would design the battery like this. The unit looses the nice solid feel with the battery moving. I would appreciate comments and experiances. Thanks.

Actually, every single Sony laptop that slides battery to its back beneath the screen has this problem, but the degree varies. Some people suggest taping the inside of the battery (the side where it contacts the notebook) to stop wiggling.

Had never noticed this tbh. Have a very small amount of movement, less than a mm I guess, on the battery vertically if I wiggle it gently but I would not consider it noticeable or a problem. Mine is a fs215m not sure what model that is in the US.

I have FS680 in testing right now and it does move very slightly...1 mm or 2. Like I said, this is universal for all Sony laptops that has battery sliding into it from the back, but some will be worse than the other due to the natural of mass production. The wiggle will not damage your laptop in anyway. If you feel uncomfortable with the degree of the wiggle, you should consider putting padding on the battery or return the unit.

Well I returned the notebook and got a new one and the movement was a little less especially when carring it. The first one you could hear and feel the battery moving around slightly. Unfortunitly the replacement notebook had some bad pixels so I returned it again. The next one has no burned out pixels but the battery moves just like the first one. MY LUCK! I quess my choises are to get use to it or get another brand. Currently I think I will just keep it and maybe put some velcro tape on the part where it moves. I would like to thank everyone for their comments.

Skyshade how do you like the 680, I almost went that route but did not want to spend the extra cash on it. I would appreciate your comments. Thanks

Well, I really like the bigger screen compared to my S, and the overall design is solid and good. The 4200 RPM HDD is the critical weakness so far. All the Sonywares also mean performance got hit somewhat, but I have limited time frame to test this unit and the fact that this thing comes with a TV tuner dock means I would have to keep most Sonyware any how for compatiability, so I am not going to too much software tweaking or clean install.

You would have to wait for the full review, but at this point I would say personal upgrade with 7200 RPM HDD should be a better route to get better performance out of FS series instead of going with FS680. On the other hand, it is not a slow machine by any means and it does have a TV turner dock that comes with it.

Thanks for your comments. Do you think that the 680 with the 750 procvessor with the 1.86 speed will be faster than the 660 with the 740 processor at 1.74. I have no idea if the increse in the processor speed would make much of a difference, it is small. Thank again.

I really doubt that. The FS680's speed is severly handicapped by the huge amount of Sony-wares (To its credit, these sonywares did make my life ridiculously easy when I try to set up the TV tuner dock. It's basically plug the cable in and voila). Software tuning is definitely a better route than spending money on CPU.
