I got my Vista Business upgrade disc not too long ago, and got a few Memory Stick PRO Duo's when they were on sale (2x1GB, 1x2GB). Now I've been putting off the Vista upgrade, but I may have more impetus if I might see some performance enhancement with this. I don't even have an external device I use them with, I just grabbed them due to price for additional storage space. (Did get a USB reader, though)

Can they be used this way? If so, would there be a difference between the 1GB and 2GB?

    Thanks.

Easiest way to see performance in your computer. Everything will be faster, from boot-up to downloads. It is also better to have 2 gigs then 1 gig on Vista for a more enchance experience.

    So that is a yes?

Also, I had meant "ReadyBoost" rather than Turbo Cache, but the damed board only changes the post subject, and not the topic subject.

you don't see much difference even you use readyboost, i suggest you get a new computer with at least with dual cores. the fs8900 it's single core and you can't even get aero with the gma900 intergrated graphic. suggest stick with xp

I am getting a new laptop, but have this for the time being, and I'm thinking about the upgrade, not decided if it's worth my trouble yet. Incidentally, I downloaded and ran the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor, and it gave me the following:

It's actually a GMA 915, although I can see it's a moot point. Aero is definitely out. :(

Getting back to the original question, since this is using an internal Memory Stick reader (not sure it's on the USB bus) would it function as ReadyDrive, or ReadyBoost?

I might still upgrade if I'll still see some improvement over XP Pro.

Actually, I hear that the GMA 900/915 can run Aero, its just that Intel doesn't want you to in the finished Vista product, I hear it can run Aero just fine in the Vista betas. :)

I really don't see what the big thing is with Aero. Besides it having transparency and Flip3D I see no other benefit. I guess it is because I'm not a gamer or video editor but I think that Vista has other benefits besides the pretty look. I think you can Install Vista on you FS only if you don't mind not having Aero because that will be the only thing you will be missing. Your PC will have all the benefits of Vista if you choose Premium or Business only lacking the Aero.

The FS can be maxed out at 1gb so you don't have the option of going 2gb and without the Aero it will still be pretty responsive (if you have ReadyBoost)

    Just my 2c

without aero its really really ugly even worse than xp interface. the pentium M still too slow for vista even you have 2gb ram, but with this spec you have, xp will be the best position.

    Hmmm...who to believe? :)

Wish someone with an FS who got the upgrade and installed it could say a few words....pretty please?

i know it's actually sad that a good looking computer born at wrong time, wish somehow there is napa or santa rosa platform on the fs, in my aspect the fs series even looks better than the FE series.

Ya know, I googled this just for the hell of it, and there's some supporting testimonies from people who claim to have accomplished this with betas, as you said. However, then I see follow ups by others with the i915 who said it didn't work for them. There's also a blog from some guy at Intel who said he's looking into it there, but it seems like placation.

Shame. It seems that it might support Aero Glass well enough with the appropriate driver. :(

there is also a petition for the aero thing on gma900, i was the second person sign on that sheet. :)
    http://www.petitiononline.com/intel915/petition.html

also you have to know that the vista has changed alot from it's beta to the final release, the aero on gma900 could be enable on build 5270 with the hacking tweak on DWM. it was not look as nice as the aero in the vista today the final version. so ms must been changed alot in the struture of the interface and memory field allotment on aero interface.

here is the picture of the build 5270, the aero still looks ugly, you can even do better than that by using blindwindow on xp.

That's not too bad though. I read 5336 might also support it. Seems a lot of work that will go bye-bye once I enable updates etc. :(

I did add my vote though. I guess we should keep at that Josh guy just in case he's being halfway honest...

i think he just a another smart intel guy actually try to balance people on the customer side, looks kind, but i think just full of ****.. the driver will never come up or will until everybody bought their new computer. i gave up long time ago, just think this way, even you get aero on gma900 it must be very slow, makes you even want to turn it off.

Wait a minute, are you guys saying that the FS can go up to 2GB? I mention this because wuruoyu says he has 2GB but I always thought 1GB was max for the FS series. Is that a different motherboard from the one I have, mine is a FS550

    Dunno.

I have a VGN-FS8900(P3) and 2GB is the max for RAM, but I was more asking if Vista could make full use of a 2GB Memory Stick for ReadyBoost/Drive.
