Hey all..Does anyone have advice for fixing the Fn brightness keys after a fresh install of vista ultimate? The laptop came with home premium, I had vista ultimate and did a fresh install. I installed every driver from the Sony site, including the firmware extensions. My Fn scroll lock key works, the Fn mute key works, but the brightness and suspend/standby keys don't work.

    Any ideas appreciated.

I suggest you call Sony Support.

Alternatively, reinstall original OS from recovery partition and then upgrade to Ultimate.

Yeah....I did that. Could barely understand the guy on the other end....a shame really that hasn't changed. He said he could send me a recovery CD..which doesn't help me at all, I don't want to recover, I want a driver. Really really annoying simple stuff like this can't be fixed through their web site.

He did do a fresh install...not an upgrade which would have preserved all the drivers.

The sequence in which you install the Sony stuff is VERY important. Also there is more involved than just drivers (there are a couple of "libraries" needed). Take a look at my signature line below for a link to clean install instructions for an FZ model. I am sure that the differences with a FW model will be minimal. Sony has used the same type of axillary apps and need for strict adherence to the proper sequence for a long time. This is my third Sony model dating back to a Z505 and all have had the same sorts of needs when doing a clean install.

lol...I think I'll choose the upgrade option rather than a clean install. While I do enjoy figuring out problems, there is no point in creating unnecessary problems! :)

Really not much in the way of "unnecessary problems". A clean install is very straight forward, as long as you do your "homework" before you start. An upgrade leaves you with all the bloatware. Its complete removal is the whole point of a clean install in the first place.

Where does p1 or portableone get their clean install disks from that have all the functioning drivers?

maybe you can order one from them.
