I just want to show you how much overclock you can expect from the HD4650 Mobile graphic card. Wait for 1080P Full HD results. :D

I don't have external monitor to do 1280x1024 standard test, I'll post the results next week when my monitor arrived. :D

( Due to poor 128Bit memory controller VGA can't handle 1080P res gaming even with No AA/All settings Low & Crysis FPS stay below 25. However 720P gaming is superb & Crysis stay above 36FPS all time with NO AA/ All Medium setting) :D

Notebook : Sony VAIO VGN-FW41M/H (UK Version)

    VGA Card : ATI HD4650 Mobile Card (512MB DDR3)

    ATI Driver version : 9.6

    Benchmarked Resolution : 1280x720

    Benchmarked software : 3DMark06

Is this one of the ATI GPUS that is prone to the issue of the solder bumps on the substrate getting heating/cooling cycle stress fractures? If so it is s VERY bad idea to be overclocking it.

try running the SF4 benchmark overnight (there is a option to make it repeat itself) youll get a BSOD within 2 hours or so. I had to downclock it to 615/720 to prevent BSOD in Street fighter 4. You will also get a BSOD within 2 minutes if you play Crysis Demo. Can you check those out with your clock speeds of 668/768?

I played Crysis about an hour with above setting. However I got BSOD when Try to play Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood. :(

I'm going to find max safe clock speed for long run. BTW temps stay below 70C after hour of crysis play.

    Try this driver

But still you need to modify your INF

Which support Vista/Win7 (All the vista/Win7 drivers comes in single package so no need to worry.Win7 version works with Vista)

was it Crysis the actual game, or the demo? I don't have that game but I find Crysis the best "stress test" for testing overclocking speed stability hehe. Maybe there was a patch of some sort on the actual game to prevent BSOD. What OS are you running?

Hey I'm having a problem with Team Fortress 2 crashing and locking up after about 5 minutes of game play. I downloaded the latest driver from the ATi website (9.6) but I didn't modify it.. What do I need to modify and whats INF? I have Vista 64. I hope this would solve my crashing/lockup error. Any help would be appreciated!

    thanks

I am very interested in purchasing this notebook.
Any ideas if I could install Windows XP on this Notebook?
Also, do you guys have problems while overclocking the 4650 and playing games? I heard many games wont work while the graphics card is being overclocked.

    Cheers

I can't believe none of you guys have heard of this
    http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool.php
I've used it for the past few years on older ATi mobile graphic cards and they just updated it to include the 4650. Use it to update to the newest drivers without modifying files. Be sure to follow the instructions on the page and you won't have any problems.

The only resolutions I can configure in Call of Duty 4 and Guild Wars are 1920x1080 and then the next step down is 1280 x 720. Is there any way to have more options in between those two steps? For instance: Can I run things at 1600 x 900?

The reason I ask is that 1280x720 is a huge drop down from 1920x1080. I would like to decrease resolution to increase fps, but not to a point where it'll make it downright ugly.

    Thanks.

9.8 drivers seem to fixed the BSOD in 3dmark06 and could clock it all the way up to 670/810 and got a 3dmark06 score of 7700 on windows 7 and on 1280X768. But I got BSOD in new Batman game demo. I had to downclock all the way to 550/810 to get a stable overclock and not get BSOD in batman demo.

550/600? I thought the stock memory speed is 800.

Anyway, the Mobility Radeon 4670 is essentially a factory-overclocked 4650 and it runs at 675/800. I think the 4650 should have a pretty good overclocking potential.

ATi has drivers right now because it's in beta. When the full retail copies of Win7 come out, I'll bet their support dries up.

    Donis,

If you hold down the ALT key when you do the screen capture, it will grab only the active window instead of the WHOLE SCREEN.

I got it stable at 500/650, haven't tried higher yet. Is around 57 degrees Cecilius a safe temp? That what it was at after an hour of gaming at the overclock.

You download a GPU overclocking program and overclock it.

I'll try to find the one I use. It took awhile for me to find one that works.

And be careful, because it could seriously damage your laptop if you don't know what you are doing.

    Hey micromarty,

were you able to fine what GPU overclocking program works with the HD4650? Yesterday I tried the ATI GPU Overclocking Tool but it failed to set the numbers I entered. then I tried AMD Overdrive and that failed to startup. Then I tried Rivalta or something like that and I don't know how to use that thing. Anyways, just wanted to know what the name of the program you used, thanks.

Ok, so I found the tool. I'm using Catalyst 9.9 and set it to 580/800 and it seems to be stable and is running at 46 degrees. I bumped it up to 620/800 but when I ran 3DMark06, my screen went blank. So I think it's safe at 580/800. At this current setting, my 3DMark score is 5977. I'm going to see if I can raise the fan speed (which is currently at 35%) by 10-15% to see if that helps.
