I know I saw someone had posted something about squeaky keys on the FW notebooks, but I don't remember where I saw it, or even if I saw it on these forums, but has anyone else noticed it? Specifically, my number 5 and 2 key squeak, but my number 5 is really bad and annoying. Does anyone know if there is a solution to fix this or if Sony can do anything about it?

I really enjoy my FW notebook quite a bit, I've had tons of HPs in the past and the quality of my FW is far superior to any HP I've had. HP's plastic does not seem to be very strong. I have the FullHD screen on my FW, and I love it! The screen is crystal clear, it's quite amazing.

some of my keys squeak from time to time, but it is rather rare and I only notice it when I am typing a document or something of that nature, otherwise no keys squeak on a regular basis. I just checked all the keys individually now, none squeak.

My s key used to squeak loudly in the beginning along with a few others, but after a week's use it seems to have done down at bit. Maybe its just a thing about the keys needing to be broken in hopefully

I don't know, it seems to be getting worse for me. First it started with number 5, then number 2, and now my S key. The number 5 keeps getting worse, I can feel the resistance in it as it squeaks. I guess I will contact Sony and see what they say about it.

Let us know what Sony says, I have a feeling that this problem might be specific to the current batch of laptops that they just made (I had ordered mine on Dec 10th).

i had the same problem about the keyboard but i have a SR. I called sony and they said my limited warranty covers this and i could get it replaced for free. But i didnt go yet and it has been 3 weeks. Now i feel like whatever when it squeaks, cause now it seems to have gone down a bit. Before my E, I, J, F and backspace squeaks. Now my E still squeaks and is probably my worst one, you can really hear it when you press down hard.

I noticed that it may take a couple of press's for it to squeak, because I play World of warcraft, and I am constantly pressing my number keys, and when I first press 5, it doesn't make any noise, but when I press it a couple more times, it starts to do it real bad.

Anyways, I spoke with Sony tech support, and they recommended that I get it covered under warranty, and to check this website for the nearest service center. http://eservice.sony.com/webrma/web/index.do

Although when I do that, there are none around me and they only offer a phone number to call, so I will have to call it tomorrow, but Sony is supposed to cover all the costs for the repair. After I give them a call, I will follow up with a post. If I decide to go through with the replacement, I'll let you know if it has fixed the problems. Since it's not such a big deal, and everything works fine, I may not go through with it just for the fact that I probably wont have my laptop for 2 weeks, but we'll see.

Cool, good luck, the reason i m hesitant about going to get my free keyboard replacement is i m afraid that they will scratch my SR, and i would be sad and even more sad if it squeaks again, which i think it will.

    1) Pop key off key retainer
    2) remove key retainer
    3) inspect key retainer (if it does not swivel freely, then)
    4) lubricate key retainer (you may need to massage the lubricant into the hinges a bit, by swiveling the hinges manually)
    5) dab excess liquid off retainer,
    6) reinstall retainer on keyboard
    7) replace key

that ought to do it. there are illustrations at a link at the topic above.
