6 months after my extended warranty expires my FW's USB drive is broken.

The computer still works well, but I'm balking at what seems like will cost $300 for Sony to repair it.

Right now I see my options are:

    1) Pay the $300 to Sony

    2) Bring it to a mom and pop laptop shop for the repair. I live in NYC - if anyone has an recs that would be helpful.

    3) Open it up myself and replace the drive

Right now I'm leaning towards 3. I found this article online that can probably guide me through it. Any tips on how to go about this? Is there a reputable place online that I can find a replacement usb driver?

    Thanks in advance!
