For those who have seen or already owned a FW, how portable is this new FW model in ur opinion ? I know it's not that much heavier than a regular 15 inch laptop, but it is still bigger. If someone who travels occasionally and wants to use it on plane or simply carry it between home and office, do u think it'd be a bit inconvenient ? How many of you would still prefer a 15 inch notebook for portability despite its superior performance ?

I seriously doubt you'd be able to use it on a plane. Simply carrying it between home and office should not be a problem, though (unless you walk to work ;)).

I'm considering something smaller. But my reason is due to the footprint size, not portability. I'd rather not take up quite this much space on the desk/table -- then again, the larger screen is a plus. Tough choice.

I could barely fit my 13in SZ on a plane tray to work comfortably....using it on your lap on a plane is your best bet, its definitely not gonna fit on a tray.

yep gotta agree with that. You can't expect anything other than a ultraportable to actually fit on the tray. the FW is fine on your lap. its about an inch wider than your standard 15.4" so it isn't really that uncomfortable. for carrying it around, it won't be an issue.

It would probably barely fit between the armrests on a plane. ;) Certainly wouldn't be too comfortable.

Oh, I was just kidding... but seriously, I don't think it would be too comfy.

I wouldn't mind taking the FW on a plane, my only worry would be power, since I doubt it would last my 9 hour flights.

lol. if your in a business class seat or first class you might find a plug. lol. i doubt anything could last your 9 hr flights.

i know you were kidding soundsood. but i think it wouldn't be a major inconvenience. i've seen ppl with their 17" laptops in amtrak trains and one or two on flights. i think they were more worried about battery running out.

indeed, no laptop would survive 9 hours, unless I found a way to power it via the headphone jack :D or hacked into the seat :p.

This is why I bring my sony mp3 player with me, real world battery life at almost 30 hours.

My 5 yr old son uses my iPhone (or my wife's video iPod) to watch movies on a plane. Works great.

    yep thats wat i do.

Anyway getting back to the FW on plane thing. It won't be uncomfortable, but if your looking to put it on the tray then it be better to grab one of the ultraportables.

Or buy 4 seats on the plane. One for you, another next to you (to share the tray with for the FW) and the two in front of you so nobody can recline back.

    ;)

Ok, it seems having a FW on a plane is inpractical then. For everyday carrying around, its 6.4 lb weight doesn't seem much of a problem to most of you guys, or does it ? Just wanna get your thoughts on its weight and size.

That one's not as easy to answer. Depends on a lot of things.

How do you define "everyday carrying around"?
