Just purchased this notebook yesterday from Bestbuy for 999.99 with a free printer. So far it seems like a really quality notebook. It was the most recommended one from this site from the users that responded to my questions.

I'm completely new to the notebook scene. What should be some of the first things I do to enhance my computer via downloads or programs.

    I have a few questions:

1)What resolution does the computer display when watching a regular DVD? I assumed it would be 480p, but it seemed more like 480i. I was watching One Tree Hill with the girl.

2)So, I also take it the only way to acheive 1080p is through the HDMI connected to a HDTV!?

3)The notebook made a loud rukus yesteday when we first put the movie in. A lot of noise coming from the dvd drive. I had it on my lap tilted, would that be the problem. Once it was seated on on a hard surface most of the noise subsided.

4)The Voulme level doesn't seem to be extremely high. Seems fine if your area is relatively quite at the time, doesn't seem great if you have a crowd around watching a video.

5)Is it okay to leave the notebook on standby majority of the time. When should we turn it off etc. Also, when home we typically leave it plugged in even if the battery is fully charged, no harm in that, right?

6)DVD Drive Setting - Where can I find this on the notebook.

7)Back-up copy - I backed up the files on a single layer DVD. It said it would take two DVDs, but it did it in only one, something must of went wrong?

    8)

I just bought it from Best Buy for 999.99 Canadian. We paid 1050.00 or so with taxes included.

My Vista score is 4.6. My processor had a 5.2 I think. How many DVD's did it take for you to make a full backup?
