I ordered a Sony Vaio VGN-FW340J/B earlier today and was
wondering if anyone has any opinions + or - about it?

    Thanks in advance

what did you pay for it? depending on price...you might have wanted to get the new 400 series instead

A little over $900. It was a present from my dear old Mom.
I was just wondering what to expect. She was going to get
me an HP but I have not had too good of luck with their
products in the past. It will be replacing my old MSI dinosaur
    desktop.

The 400's seem to cost less than the previous models. (300's)

So the FW340's are not all that great?
What are the major downfalls of it?

I did a search for the 400's, but came up empty-handed.

um it's impossible to say without specs.

to make it okay compared to the 400 series it would need a 2.4ghz, 4gb ram. The only real difference in the 400 series is better video card.

it comes with a 320GB hard drive 2 gig core duo processor
4 gig of DDR2. Is the video card in the 340 lacking?

Do you have any links to the 400 that you could post?

honestly, if its a gift, I wouldn't be thaaaat picky about it. It's a great laptop, and be thankful you didn't get an HP lol

If you really want the better graghics cards, then take it back and get yourself a 400 model

And what is exactly the problem with the OEM video card?
Or, how is the 400's card better and what problem/s can I
expect to encounter with the stock 340's card.

Frame rates? Games? I NEVER play games on my computer. As long as it will play a DVD, I'll be satisfied. I will be mainly using it to take a web design class with and surf the net.
